This whole thing is such a net L for the culture bc the Swifties now see the extent of their influence in that they were able to successfully bait Halsey into entering the discourse, and now they can try to do that with other artists. The hate campaign they've been running against Olivia has been largely unsuccessful, but this little tiff at the tail-end of the album release is a reminder that that fandom still has some level of influence.

"Level of fame" is maybe up for debate, but I do sometimes think about how Taylor Swift is the only mainstream artist today who comes close to matching The Beatles in terms of prolificness. It's crazy how the Beatles released 13 records between 1963 and 1970. Taylor Swift released 11 albums between 2019 and 2025 if you count the TVs and also count TTPD as two albums (even if you don't count those it's still 6 albums in 6 years). Granted, I think it was more the norm in the 60s-80s for artists to have a new project out pretty much every year. Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, The Rolling Stones, Queen etc. all also accomplished that at the peak of their success. Nowadays really no mainstream pop artist besides Taylor Swift comes anywhere close to that.

Worth going back and watching her original vid on the first time she took the course. You can tell back then it was very much Charlie and his team trying to cash in on the Coursera/edX online course boom of the COVID era. Like many orgs, they've now rolled out an "AI enhanced" version of the product that is effectively worse but also more expensive despite being cheaper to run (because it requires less human admin work on the back end).
