Skimpflation is the reduction in quality of a product as an alternative to raising its price.

Shrinkflation is the reduction in size/weight/quantity of a product as an alternative to raising its price.

Which do you think is more evil?

Personally give me shrinkflation any day. I'd rather pay more than have good recipes/formulations being trashed and average food quality declining.

It depends on the product but in general skimpflation. Quality >> quantity

The worse of all is when they change the formula of a product I use regularly, like makeup or shampoo or vitamins. At least if it's less it's still what you need. But if they change the whole thing to have worse quality than it's like you bought it for nothing. I'd rather pay for less than pay for something practically worthless.

Like how Chanel sells cheap leather that starts to peel while the stuff from the 80s is still in tact. Or washing machines that lasted decades but modern ones break down in a few years. This is why it sucks when a company is bought out by a bigger one. They always start by cheapening the ingredients.

(that's assuming I understood what u meant by this term bc I never heard it before)

Because they shift the product tier when they lower the product quality and introduce a higher tier product to justify the higher price.

Skimpflation is way worse. Charging more for something that is worse quality than it was before is diabolical.

Both are just as evil.
