I've listened to the album a couple of times, and my impression is that it feels more like an EP than a true debut album. I think the project is still lacking a fair amount of artistic self-discovery and identity-building.

SZN4 have excellent raw material to work with: strong voices and, at least on paper, an image that stands far apart from the mainstream. Ironically, those two strengths have become their biggest weaknesses.

On the one hand, they haven't found the right songs to showcase their vocals. Most of the tracks sit somewhere between mid-tempos and ballads that never quite explode or give their voices the chance to truly shine. Interestingly, Donzell's voice is the one that stood out to me the most. She's the member who brings something fresh and distinctive to the group. I think Private Show and Pop That Trunk point in the right direction, especially when paired with more emotionally raw and vocally challenging ballads. They remind me of the best moments of the Black Eyed Peas during the Elephunk and Monkey Business era.

Then there's the issue of their image. They naturally look like outsiders, like unapologetic weirdos and misfits—and I mean that in the best possible way. Instead of embracing that uniqueness, they've stripped away much of what makes them special in an attempt to make them appear more conventional. They have unconventional voices, personalities, and bodies. Why hide that? Why pretend otherwise?

As for the cheap-looking AI-generated artwork, I'm not even going to get into that.

love their voices a lot, i was a fan on building the band but the music they've put out so far feels so cheap and lifeless, private show was the only one i kinda liked of the singles. I might check out this album but i feel like they need to sign with a label or something so they can work with better producers who understand them as a group

Private Show is a smash hit. The second half of this album is massive.

Agree that I'd like more weirdness from them - they can go bigger

You rationalised exactly what I was thinking. Pop That Trunk and Private Show showcase them perfectly as something fresh in the current pop landscape - bold, authentic and reminiscent of the past without being too try hard. CHARISMA. Just expansive, almost genre less fun music. Would love an album of it, perhaps in an Outkast half/half style.

Just like @Scandalous said they need an A&R team that truly believes in them, understands their strengths, and knows how to maximize their potential. Right now, they're being managed by a very weak team. They don't have a consistent visual identity. It feels like they're constantly experimenting with different looks from one video or photoshoot to the next—and, in my opinion, they're experimenting in the wrong direction. The focus seems to be on making them look sexy and conventionally attractive, and I don't think that's the right artistic vision for them.

The music could be so much more fun and daring. If they can harmonize, do riffs and runs, hit belts and high notes—then let them do it.

Both vocally and aesthetically, they feel restrained. They come across like the quirky kids in class who are trying not to draw attention to themselves, blending into the background instead of standing out. That's what this album feels like to me: a harmless album. They're cast as the harmless supporting characters who accompany the protagonist rather than becoming the stars of the story themselves.

I think they need to make a statement and claim the spotlight. That's why I compared them to the Black Eyed Peas. They didn't have a conventional image either, but they never apologized for it. They embraced what made them different and made it their strength.
