I bought a house in my home town of about 90,000 people (150,000 metro) a year and a half ago. My family is here. I have a good career job I'm getting a significant raise for soon, but the moment I bought a house here I was hit with this pang of "well that didn't cure my depression". Shocker!

I've come to realize I'm a very social person. I love always having plans. I love spending time with people. I'd hang out with friends nearly every night of the week if I could. But I'm in my late 20s, most of my friends live two hours away in a bigger metropolitan city or more rural.

When I lived in a bigger city, I'd make friends on bumble bff and by joining clubs but in a smaller metro space like this, clubs are less common and most of the people joining these clubs and living in this city are not my age or not really my vibe as a gay man in my late 20s.

I have family and some close friends but everyone is living their boring adult lives. I want more, but it's not as simple as "just sell your house and move somewhere more aligned". I also have to be responsible and careful about such a big mood but I haven't shaken this longing for more community and it's been 18 months.

Any creative ideas?

Find a fun hobby that involves being with others. Go to the record store and hide vinyls from artists that compete with your faves.

Sis, it's genuinely easier to build deep, lasting friendships in a smaller city. In big cities, it often ends up being more surface‑level unless you get really lucky. It sounds like you are after quantity over quality.
