Their vocals are not as strong on the new album, imo… It's like they were bored in the studio lol.

All four tracks are better produced than most of the standard album and are actually good.

The Last Town will satisfy those who have been missing what makes A&A, A&A. Out of My Feelings is good with nice harmonies. The Deep End is INCREDIBLE. Drop the twang and just make experimental, alternative stuff like Deep End and Take Your Time pls. Strawberry Wine is a cute vocal moment and I can forgive the country since it's a cover.

Out of My Feelings after a joint WHEW I hope Deep End takes me somewhere ^

 

Anyways, I'll take "The Deep End" (Which is gorgeous) and move on!

I completely agree! I'm so sick of their little western cosplay they've been doing. They're trying tooooo hard to seem interesting and intelligent that it ends up being horribly inauthentic. I've been a fan literally since the jump and this whole country thing is SO left field. What happened to "Aly & AJ make rock music" because that's what we want.

I really loved that Insomniatic was a blend of harder rock songs (Insomniatic), synth pop (PBUS) and indie pop (Silence):

• The harder rock sound went to 78Violet (which sadly they won't release on streaming platforms)
• The indie pop sound went to Hothouse (which AGAIN the won't release on streaming).
• The synth pop sound went to the "We Don't Stop" era of the EPs  and the droplets.

Sure, their sound is very guitar driven but I don't they have released a pure rock album, sure their debut made them a rock project but Insomniatic was a blend of different sounds, the only other one that was set to be their rock album (78Violet) went unreleased and after that they never made rock again, even AToTB is more indie rock, not much hits as hard as they DO  in songs like Insomniatc, Next Worst Thing, Chemicals React, etc.

 

I think it's not a true statement after all....

I think a dreampop record produced by their long-term collaborator Jorge Elbrecht would be a nice direction for them. (Maybe reheating Hatchie's nachos)

 

Even shoegaze, imagine "Baby, Lay Your Head Down" with some distortion / fuzz.

Ya the new album was almost toooo chill. What It Feels Like and Lasso are the clear standouts.
