46 years ago Donna Summer released the massive "Bad Girls", which ended up making her the biggest artist that year with multiple hit singles including "Bad Girls", "Hot Stuff", and "Dim All the Lights". The album spent 6 weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200, and also made Donna the first female artist to have two songs in the top three of the Hot 100. The summer of 1979 was the Donna's. Donna went on to win the first female rock vocal performance for "Hot Stuff" at the 1980 Grammy along with a few other nominations. 
 

1979 was a massive year for Donna as she had a few other hits. A huge collaboration with Barbra Streisand "No More Tears (Enough is Enough)" which gave Donna three #1s in a year. Another #1 album which was her greatest hits album at the end of 1979, followed by "On the Radio" which gave her first top five of the 80s. 
 

Bad Girls was met with critical acclaim, and is lauded as one of the greatest disco albums of all time. For Donna the album was a turning point as she experimented with various genres notably rock. Also the album has some of the greatest music transitions. 
 

However, by the time that album came out, the total cultural dominance of disco led to disdain from rock fans. While "Hot Stuff" was blasting across the radios in the U.S. rock fans had a disco demolition night. Where they destroyed disco records at a baseball game in Chicago. This was shown across the United States. Following this backlash, radio stations removed disco music from their playlists. By 1980 disco was dead in the US. But Donna already transitioned to other genres and was ready for her next phase in the 80s. 
 

 

 

This album is everything. Filled with great songs and great visuals. Donna deservedly dominated the charts in 1979.
