im being ms. petty because yes, twice albums are frontloaded and fan-base driven like most kpop albums, and though steady GP consumption is ultimately more valuable it's still pretty cool they garnered enough power over the years to outsell main pop girls' first week in pure. what they cant achieve in bb200 longevity they make up for in career longevity via sold out stadiums

it's okay, I won't disagree when it comes to Twice being successful, their longevity is impressive one of the most successful groups in the kpop history for sure 

 

BP is just iconic and I think they deserve a lot of credit for their solo work in the past year, because it's not easy to build the connections and make it, especially independently  I bet they will be more than fine with the solo releases in the long run and learn from the mistakes they made during this era

dare i say jennie is matching rosie (sans apt)? like her album streams are incredible and like jennie/extral/handlebars is doing what nog/ttte should have done. her first week sales are moot when she's serving longevity, the concept of selling less than nayeon/jihyo is just a quick kii but it's their fault for cannibalizing each other

yeah I guess Blinks went poor with all of the albums, merch AND tour tickets on top of that 

 

solo stans fights are insane right now too, so it doesn't help

now that you mention it... YG releasing tickets the same day Alter Ego came out had to be some kind of setup.  i didnt even buy the album bc im spending $400+/ticket already for floor

Wait Bebe is a bop  my only complaint - as always  these days - is that its too short/it ended too abruptly.. another chorus would have elevated the song so much

there is a lot of things adding up to the underperformance of both albums, sales wise, but I bet they will be okay in the long run

There were also rumors about Aisha having a regular job outside of her idol activities.

 

It's crazy how their company mismanaged their potential, especially considering they were one of the most hyped and promising girl groups of the 4th generation. Their songs used to outdo other 4th gen girl groups like IZ*ONE and GIDLE etc. on global platforms, but just never had the same sales numbers. This is why album sales and having a big fanbase remain the most important metric for a group's success otherwise the popularity could stop instantly, just like it did with EVERGLOW.

 

I don't think there's ever been a K-pop girl group like EVERGLOW, who never had a huge fanbase either locally or globally, yet remained popular thanks to casual K-pop fans worldwide, despite having a relatively small core fanbase. Like has there ever been a K-pop girl group that managed to pull in 200-300 million streams globally without ever having a single song charting in Korea?

 

It feels like XG has now taken their spot as the go-to global girl group, filling the void that was originally meant for EVERGLOW.
