I wonder what this era is going to sound like, since it's way more laid back and dark

what the hell, sure! Moonbyul should watch her gay crown

People aren't talking enough about how JYPE in 4th gen managed to debut the most talented groups in all 3 main categories in Kpop - vocals, dance, and rap:

NMIXX = strongest vocal group in 4th gen
ITZY = strongest dance group in 4th gen
Stray Kids = strongest rap group in 4th gen

Dirty Work was heavily targeted at the US and failed to take off whatsoever, even with a push to bulk buy digital single albums (I know that SM didn't submit the sales but it still wouldn't have charted very high). Combining 3 separate versions of the song puts it at about 81m streams. Whiplash was getting around 750-800k streams daily about 4 months after release, and Dirty work is getting 250-300k. Idk how you cant see that as a heavy underperformance. The video isn't performing on par, the song isn't performing on par

Rich Man is already DOA as another attempt at a cross promo single. 0 chart impact in the US, already out of the top 10 in Korea. On YouTube, their video has already been passed by Western pop acts (the acts that traditionally don't get views). Sabrina Carpenter's Tears and Lady Gaga's The Dead Dance both passed Rich Man with ease. Theyre failing to match their juniors H2H on Spotify too which is heavily embarassing. STYLE is getting the same numebr of daily streams as Dirty Work. It had an apple promo as well.

You can try to spin it like these were huge singles but they weren't. They both pale in comparison to all of the other title tracks aespa put out in 2024. Let's compare! :cm:

Supernova passed 100 million streams 2 months after release -> Dirty Work will be lucky to pass 100m streams within 6 months of release (it won't its already stalling). Supernova had two weeks of music show promotions, just like Dirty Work did. Dirty Work passed 100m digital points on circle in 2 months, while Supernova passed it in 4 weeks. The song is literally performing at half the pace of supernova.

Armageddon also passed 100 million streams 2 months after it released. It's gained another 180 million streams since. Performed better than both TTs this year. It had two weeks of promo performances, just like Dirty Work did. In the time it took Dirty Work to pass 100m points on Circle, Armageddon passed 200m points

Whiplash passed 100 million streams 57 days after release. It's been 52 days since Rich Man came out and it's at 36 million, performing at less than half the pace Whiplash performed at. They also performed on music shows for two weeks.

This is the definition of UNDERPERFORMANCE. They aren't performing close to the level that their year-old singles were, theyre performing at or under HALF the numbers.  I get that you want to support your faves but its delulu to act like these singles are performing well.

Billboard Global 200:

#5. Dirty Work

#30. Rich Man

Spotify Streams:

Dirty Work - 83,454,254 (+326,172)

Rich Man - 37,936,325 (+383,215)

*Style - 52,944,001 (+282,341)

YouTube Music:

Dirty Work - 135M

Rich Man - 71M

*The Dead Dance - 69M

*Tears - 65M

Days on Apple Music Global 100:

Dirty Work - 12 Days

Rich Man - 5 Days

*Every Other 4th Gen Group Combined in 2025 - 0 Days

I think we're all aware that Dirty Work and Rich Man aren't as successful as "Whiplash," but that's an impossible standard to live up to. Aespa don't necessarily aim for success and their sound isn't overly commercial, so I think we all accept that they'll bomb pretty often in their career. That being said, their underperforming title tracks still do better than their peers' underperformances, their album sales are still incredibly good and they're about to surpass IDLE as the second most streamed 4th gen group.

I don't know why non-SM stans think that SM lives for Western validation, but it could not be further from the truth. I could go on about older SM groups, but with Aespa they don't even bother to do playlisting. "Dirty Work" debuted with 1.8M Spotify streams and it had less playlisting than a B-side from major HYBE/YG artists. The album format had 4 versions and the four physical single versions were a 5k limited release (5k across all versions total) on their website only and they didn't bother to submit the data to Billboard.

As to your other points, Dirty Work is still pulling more daily streams than Style despite H2H getting a bump from a new release. Tears and The Dead Dance are rising in views a lot because they're Halloween-themed videos, but Rich Man is still millions ahead of them. Supernova is a monster hit so I don't think anyone expects any song to be as big as it was, but I think you're forgetting that Supernova, Armageddon and Whiplash all had mini promo tours when Aespa did the university circuits. That is the #1 way to secure digital hits and it clearly works - which is part of why Aespa were forced to do them again this year.

Dirty Work is at 187M digital points and doing 6.2M weekly on Circle after a #2 peak (pulled more points than the #1 if you include the Flo Milli version which did 2M+) and 11 weeks in the top ten. Rich Man is at 76M and doing 9M+ points a week after a #4 peak and 6 weeks in the top ten. They're doing really well for being mid tier Aespa singles.

the way this was my first (and last) comeback with them :monkey:

Hopefully the costume shop gave them a discount because unlike with the normal  local clientele, none of these skirts are being dragged on the ground. :fan:
