17. Shake It Out

Shake_it_Out.png

OVERALL SCORE:

8.545

Patricias (12, 11): Achilles., ahauntingnearu, Giovanni, makeawish, MidnightsAtPeace, Mikeymoonshine, Paddy, Taylor fanboy
Lovers To Lovers (10): Album Leak, BlackoutZone, BowWow, CBC, Florence Belch, killer_rose, Mr. Peanutbutter, Ponzi, Supervillain, Why, yyy
Tuscan Machines (9): 1989, crymelanie, Ewan Chaos, jacklovesyou1, PaloSanto, sparrowblue, Suka Bicza, Torment, Velvet Night
Tuscan Tomato-throwers (2): HonourableVomit
Haters to Haters (1): creativity.
Joshuas (0, -1): Curaga, khalyan

Thoughts:
AshleyLovescats887: songs about shaking really are meant to be bangers huh
Curaga: Overrated!
Ewan Chaos: Iconic track, it did better than most would think (in the States) but I wish it was a smash
MidnightsAtPeace: I have a tattoo inspired by this song and that should tell you how I feel about it. ONE OF THE BEST SONGS OF ALL OF TIME.
Mikeymoonshine: Shake It Out is still my favourite florence song ever, something about her vocals on that track just obsesses me.
Paddy: this is Florence's best song. True masterpiece.

This should've been number 1 wtf

If not, at least top 3

That song still gives me chills, even after more than 10 years. It is THAT good

Do we have a Florence base thread btw? :suburban:

As for my final post as the host, I wanna thank you all Flows (or, as I like to call you, my fellow Tuscan Machines)!

Be it for joining the megarate by submitting your ballots or for just shitposting in here, what's important is that we all had fun and reached a cosmic love.mp3 that took the form of this thread. It wouldn't have been the same without any of your posts or takes, and it turned out so special because you all ARE special, and I want you to know that. You made all the work behind it something that goes well beyond just a worth, and I couldn't be happier and prouder! So thank you all, from the belch of my heart :heart2:

Special thanks to @Ace Reject for allowing me to host the megarate and to @killer_rose for supplying us with all the memorable Flo memes

The last thing I can wish for is to see you all when Florence blesses us with a new album! In the meantime, remember to have your Third Eye open and to always let yourself be the ultimately truer, growing version of yourself, cause that's what Mother Flo has taught us

Thank you so much for hosting! I had a lovely time hanging out here and rediscovering Mother's discography!!!

OVERALL SCORE:

9.059

Patricias (12, 11): CBC, makeawish, Mr. Peanutbutter
Lovers To Lovers (10): 1989, Achilles., BlackoutZone, BowWow, creativity., crymelanie, Suilen
Tuscan Machines (9): AshleyLovescats887, Curaga, Florence Belch, jacklovesyou1, PMM, stjosephprey4us, Uncatena, Velvet Night, VeniceBeach
Tuscan Tomato-throwers (2):
Haters to Haters (1):
Joshuas (0, -1):

Thoughts:
AshleyLovescats887: Iconic track, though i wish it was called Cat Days but whatever
Ewan Chaos: I mean this is a truly iconic song. Fun fact, I quoted the "run fast..." in my opening paragraph for a school essay about The Road and it was my best-scored essay nnnn
MidnightsAtPeace: I'm so happy this was the song that sent her into stardom. The perfect song to kick off a legendary album that kicked off her career.
Uncatena: A classique. Truly a song that defines the take-over of "indie pop" on radio and charts.
Suilen: this having like a billion streams on Spotify is a rare instance of talent winning

I was GOOPED when I saw my name as the most reacted poster, I didn't expect it :deadbanana:

So this is how payola works, uh? Poor the other girls, they aren't ready for my "1 - 1 -(SHAKE IT) OUT" run

I think you get a notification saying that you won the day and then on your profile it says how many days you've won and what the most recent was. But I don't really remember. It's been nearly a year since the day I won. Florence about to outchart me!

I saw a yellowish gold "You won the day X" box on my profile: at first I was kinda scared, cause I thought it was one of those NASTY ATRL ads :deadbanana4:

Then I clicked on it and it took me to the ATRL motherboard (which I didn't even know existed in the first place, wtf :deadbanana4:), and here we are in my Lungs era

I HATE SWIFTIES I HATE SWIFTIES I HATE SWIFTIES I HATE SWIFTIES I HATE-

Okay now that I've caught up. Let me trauma dump a minute. Nobody wants to have the experience I did over this weekend. When I logged on for last Friday's reveal I was greeted by the worst news imaginable. I had a two day posting suspension because out of the kindness of my heart, being such a considerate person who is always looking for the well-being of his fellow ATRLers, I told a miserable user to take his anti-depressants. And they locked me up for that girl.

gretchen-crying.gif

I was following this thread religiously and reacting as much as I could (I didn't hit the limit like Mother Belch but I hope you all felt my presence looming in your notifications anyway) and I felt like such a traitor not being able to participate. It was truly a cackle the whole way through and I was screaming in particular at all the hate jacklovesyou & mariah by association got especially from @killer_rose.

The meme pics chosen and the entire presentation was incredible and camp, thank you for a legendary rate @Florence Belch  you put SO much effort into it and it truly delivered.

The results were SHOCKING constantly and I don't think I've ever seen another rate come down to the wire with so many 8+ score averages. It really goes to show the standard of quality in Florence's discography is uniquely exceptional and the first 3 albums are stone cold classics (personally I'd include HAH in that too but the divide is visible).

Love how they're significantly different from each other but still a cohesive journey.

One of the weirder things to me was seeing the quirkier moments on Lungs like My Boy Builds Coffins, Girl With One Eye and Blinding so low, but that's probably just my nostalgia/emotional attachment to them from back in the day before we had any idea what she was going to go on to do. And then for a Lungs song to take out #1 anyway?! Werk. Cosmic Love is not my favourite either on the album or from her discography but it's inarguably a signature song, nobody else could do it, and it will aaaalways be a staple of a Florence concert because it's such an anthem. I can't be mad at it. What The Water Gave Me and HB title track were a huge surprise for the top 3, I was sure What Kind Of Grammy and Queef of Piss would be there, but the bigger the star the bigger the target I guess.

My beautiful 12 Over The Love suffered soundtrack bias I know but at least she topped her own lane. Unfortunately even Florence herself forgets that song and has ignored it since 2013 but I'm still here!!

CRY! CRY! CRYYYYYYYY!!

uKQOKcV.gif

If I had to pick a top 10 out of the immaculate tapestry that is FATM I'd probably choose Dog Days, Never Let Me Go, Over The Love, Queen of Peace, What Kind of Man, How Big/Blue/Beautiful, Leave My Body, No Light, Only If For A Night and maybe... like Big God or Hunger depending on my mood.

And carrying on from the discussion about mother's dead base: One of the best things to come out of this rate is such.. fervent discussion about a widely known but rarely appreciated artist who never gets her fair dues or recognition cause she's too pop for the alt rock crowd and too alt rock for the pop crowd. Love all of you (yes even the swifties) for occupying the middle of that venn diagram here with me.

Also nobody really talks about The Odyssey and how legendary it is that she made a visual album on probably $100 budget filled with better cinematography than several blockbuster hits, flawlessly choreographed and featuring some of the greatest music ever written. WHERE IS HER AOTY NOM??

USYZPse.png

Anyway while I was locked out, I was listening along to the songs as they got punched out and I decided to do a re-produce (that's just a pretentious synonym of remix) of Tantalus since it's so clear she just made it in 30 mins in Garageband and it deserves a proper HBHBHB instrumental treatment. I'm at work today but I'll probably finish it tonight after I watch White Incest I and post it here to celebrate.

Thanks for this @Florence Belch

This was fun and has inspired me to reassess some of the songs I have not listened to in a lot of time. Even thinking about giving Dance Fever another chance 🤭

Regarding The Odyssey, we need to thank both Florence and Vincent Haycock who turned out directing Lemonade visual album because he was so into Florence's concept and director for The Odyssey.

As promised

Took me ages to figure out wtf my old ATRL soundcloud account was so I didn't dox myself. :suburban: Hate that the only vocals we have for this song are super grainy and probably Florence yelling into her macbook but it's such a beautiful song anyway.

My downvote could mean anything from "I hate this result" to "**** this song" :jonny:   A riddle for the ages.
