What's next for Cardi B?

Featured Replies

Cardi B has been on a steady decline for over 2 years now and her records have officially been evicted from the Top 10. Having clearly missed her opportunity to release her sophomore album, her quickly diminishing commercial pull is showing more and more with each release. Despite a big budget music video, high profile collaborator, and a televised performance at the VMAs, Cardi's latest single 'Bongos' is expected to debut and peak outside the top 10 and continue this downward trend. What can she do to reverse course? Should she just drop the album and move on to the next? Change image and sound to adapt to the current music climate? Sample a Latin classic? Or is her time simply coming to an end? I personally think it's the latter but what are your thoughts?

Her not dropping an album after WAP and Up is probably the most baffling thing. Surely Atlantic have 10 songs lying around she could’ve quickly recited and dropped as an album.

Yeah I think Bozos was the beginning of Cardi’s obvious decline

Atlantic pulled all stop for it to be a massive hit and it got no where….

it looks like she's preparing to expose the Petty family for threatening her and trying to intimidate her the same way they did with Jennifer Hough

then hopefully when all this drama is over she can focus on music

Hopefully she made enough money off of IOP to retire and give her family a comfortable and happy life far away from any recording studio or social media app:foxaylove3:

The music is never coming. She continues to look for excuses to deflect from the fact that she is shelved.

she can do whatever she wants.

she is an icon for life.

she can sell whipit shots for the rest of eternity

Some people are one era wonders and that’s OK. Not everyone is trying to have a long career. Carti probably never thought she would find any kind of success as much as she’s gotten her first album.

I hope she pulls a Lauren & never release again.

It’s the way i can actually see this.

How many singles with her as the lead has she released since IOP?

1.) Money (2018)

2.) Please Me (2019)

3.) Press (2019)

4.) WAP (2020)

5.) Up (2021)

6.) Hot S*it (2022)

7.) Bongos (2023)

So many missed opportunities. This doesn’t even count all the songs she’s featured in. They could’ve released an IOP Deluxe (like Iggy’s Reclassified) in late 2018/early 2019 with Money and Please Me. And then an album in 2020 with Wap/Up as the lead singles, and Press as a cute teaser/promo single, ala Roman in Moscow. And Bongos could’ve been the lead off her third studio album and fourth overall release.

Her commercial power really seems to be diminishing, but it's still within reach to get a sample'd hit and release the album with WAP and UP on it to secure some units.

oh yes she's clearly too busy with this threat that happened days after bongos chart slide and that's why it's not successful... you'll get em next time cardi!

yeah in all reality, if Bongos continues on this trajectory something safe like a sample is probably next. Or a collab with a pop girl.

if that flops, i don't see much budget being allocated her way, and my interest in her lives and dies with her music videos so... hopefully she can be the new iggy and pull off high concept videos with minimal budget?

Cardi has been a star since before LAHH and before her music career. She had a huge following on IG. She will always have fans because she's high energy and fun and relatable and not popping pills, bunkered down going live in a dimly lit room, filtered to hell, breathing heavily into the mic while spewing(slowly) Trumpian word salad to gaslight whatever bruised her ego that day. Whatever she chooses to do she will continue to effortlessly drive engagement from fans and secret admirers because we ALL clearly care what the future holds for Mrs. Belcalis.

What's next is resorting to cheap tactics of attaching yourself to Nicki Minaj in order to gain sympathy from the media. It worked in 2018, it won't work today.

She's over.

You’ve (ironically) demonstrated how her future will always involve comparisons to Nicki, no matter what she does. Even her own fans can’t help it, must drive her insane.

take a bow!

The difference is Nicki Minaj surpassed Lil Kim. 1 year into her career mind you.

Will Cardi ever surpass Nicki? I think we all know the answer to that. :coffee2:
