White Flag - Dido | Turns 20

This masterpiece :superman:

It's still such a beautiful and timeless song

It was a massive global smash, released as the lead single of her blockbuster sophomore album Life for Rent which sold 10 million worldwide.

It reached #1 on the European Hot 100, dethroning Lumidee's "Never Leave You (Uh Oh)" and was the 4th biggest smash of Europe of 2003.

It also reached #1 in Australia, Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Norway, Italy and Portugal, #2 in Switzerland, UK, Denmark, Ireland, Scotland and Sweden and reached top 5 in 20+ countries.

It reached #18 in the USA and charted for 41 weeks, becoming the 36th biggest hit of 2004 in the country

It was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal but lost to Xtina's "Beautiful" at the 2004 Grammy's and won Best Single at the 2004 Brit Awards.

Omg, what strange timing to see this!!!

I just listened to Ricky & Xtina's Nobody Wants to Be Lonely on Saturday and after it ended, Spotify shuffled songs from the early '00s and I was driving, so I didn't bother changing it. When White Flag came on, I of course recognized it from when it was a hit, but I never really listened to it back then. So this time, I actually listened to all of the lyrics for the first time and I teared up after the bridge :gaycat7: Very relatable song. I've been listening to it a lot the past couple days.

A CLASSIC! The bridge >>>>>

Tbh the whole album is 10/10, she deserved that success

This song takes me back to a happy time when I was a teenager :chick3:

Rick Nowels pen never missed :jonny5:

Such a classic, MV ate too

A classic! :WAP:

Although 2013 tumblr kinda ruined this song a biT for me. A bunch of people on there I guess never heard the phrase “going down with the ship” because they took it literally. They assumed she was talking about a ship (romantic pairing) between 2 characters

The streak of masterpieces she was releasing during those years, my God :jonny5:

Absolutely beautiful song, it gives me some peace somehow, see when you have an angelical voice with meaningful lyrics.

Also let’s not forgot that Bea Miller X Factor performance that -at that time- was out streaming this. I was so ******* frustrated that the girls on my school were hyping up that cover which is not bad but didn’t even knew the original

A timeless, classic, godly masterpiece. :jonny:

Dido was providing beautiful songs one after another at the time. Really brings up the memories and nostalgia.

We so not deserve this heavenly song.

Honestly one of the best songs of all times.

Also I've always wondered why Amy Winehouse hated her :rip:

She was so pressed that she didn’t had the success Dido was having + she left her empty handed at the BRITs. Amy never liked girls being above her but in the long run she won but Dido still to these days didn’t said a thing about her because she’s unproblematic and only makes people talk about her with her music, not drama, feuds or other things. She just releases beautiful music every 5 years and then stays at home with her author husband and her son while doing a normal life in London

What a masterpiece they don’t make music like this anymore

This song is a timeless masterpiece and her second album is incredible! Dido was on top of the world, making quality songs!

The first 10 seconds alone put me in such a state of euphoria. This is just one of those songs that’ll always be good.

Life for Rent is an incredible album! In fact, let me listen to Sand In My Shoes right now! :gaycat2:

Life for Rent was that album! :clap3:

If Beautiful was to lose its Grammy, it would be for White Flag.
