i feel like even though the general consensus (from listeners & critics) is that it’s a great song, people still took time with it? i think it wasn’t as instant as dl or g4u, it seems to be more like deja vu. but that isn’t bad at all, considering the latter ended up being a fan favorite and is currently outstreaming the other popular singles.

 

i guess you can also say this applies to vampire’s potential chart trajectory— would it be a 1 week #1 and then gone OR would it be slow but have legs?

I already forgot about it. 

I think it will be stable and turn out to be a big hit for her but I am not seeing it be as massive as drivers license/good 4 u. Wonder how she will do with a more uptempo song since that has been teased with this.

Neither. It’s a very boring song, I’m sorry. I loved SOUR. But this just feels like a discount Driver’s License with less inspiration.

i never saw the similarities between this & drivers license until i listened to the song so many times. and it clicked that it was a rehash with just a louder build up.

 

the structure is same. slow first part that leads to a crescendo. the chorus sounding more like a pre-chorus. chorus going up the scale then going silent. the release of “bleeding me dry like a goddamn vampire” line is basically “you said forever now i drive alone past your street”.

 

i feel like it could be her “Focus” if her next single becomes bigger or stronger.

When I first listened to it, the minimal piano chime repeating throughout reminded me of the same element from drivers license. The similarities are striking. But it just feels less genuine for me. Drivers License is a great song because of the structure but also because it feels so real and vulnerable.
