Yes there is integrity in making music for art.  I think that's what most artists aspire to make music this way but have to fold to making music to cater to charts for success because 1. Their label wants a hit

This is a change of pace and positive thread. Art > Chart

 

There are two types of "art" artists:

Artist A: The one who makes art because they're inspired to make art

Artist B: The one who makes art because they believe it will be trailblazing or yield success on the charts

 

Artist A or artist in situation A do end up being successful regardless; the first thing that comes to mind are the people who I've never heard of that win Grammy; Rihanna's Anti and Beyonce's Beyonce, Bruno Mars 24k Magic

I feel like the artists that have strong longevity tend to be the ones that favor quality in their music.  Look at Anti, Lana’s career, Renaissance, Taylor’s longevity, future nostalgia, etc.
