Miley: What went wrong?

Featured Replies

I think when you have a lead single that is *that* big, it can go 2 ways - it can help the album smash (e.g. Harry’s House, After Hours etc.) or it can cannibalise it, which looks like what happened here.

Flowers is the biggest hit of the year and Angels Like You is reaching new peaks inside the Top30 on Global Spotify. After 17 years in the game, Miley is having a pretty good year.

As for the album, it was met with a mixed reception even among her fanbase and it doesn't help that River was an awful single choice. She isn't doing much to try to change this situation, so I'd say that Columbia seems to be more than satisfied with all the revenue Flowers alone is bringing to them.

Wrong? not really.

She's far from being a consistent hit maker or album seller and at this point it's pretty clear. But she has one of the biggest hit of the year and one of her previous single is rising on streams.

The Endless Summer Vacation tankery is prime example of flopping simply because the music isnt good. She had all the hype but the album just wasnt good. It was God awful actually

My question is: where is she? The last time I saw her was that fashion show or something.

She’s meditating

OT: Nothing went wrong. ESV and Plastic Hearts are her best albums. Flowers is the biggest hit of the year. I think she’ll definitely get Grammy nominations and maybe even win

The quality of ESV is the problem.

If only she released PH now with Flowers as the lead :chick1:

she hasn’t left her house all year except to go to Fashion shows :rip:

also I love the good sis but the album is a huge decline in quality after her magnum opus Plastic Hearts:coffee2: if she wanted to sell this mediocre album she should be out here kissing her fans asses

Miley is so inconsistent. She alienates her fanbase every album cycle. It’s only so many times you can say “this is the real me!” before people stop giving a **** altogether. She’s a quick lil singles girl.

This is the biggest reason. Her discography is extremely inconsistent and she never fully realizes what sounds she wants to go for, Plastic Hearts was marketed as her ‘rock’ album yet it was plastered with pop production, and ESV was literally an attempt at recreating a female Harry Styles type of sound.

Miley has been doing this for almost 2 decades now and she still hasn’t figured out her sound. She’s just not a good musician, she’s skilled as a vocalist and as a live performer but she has no idea what to do in the studio

Because the album is just NOT it..

Plastic Hearts remain SUPERIOR and ESV was a heavy downgrade quality wise

Happy for her snatching the Biggest SMASH of 2023 tho

ESV is terrible and by far her 2nd worst album only behind dead pets. And that's the problem, the single was nice, the rest of the album was crap.

I think the fact that Flowers was so massive meant it cannibalised all of her hype. It completely overshadowed everything else she tried to do and it all just got lost. Plus, her other material was not that good - that didn't help.

It's almost like she's become a one hit wonder artist, but for a single era.

Album is so, so awful.

I tried to listen a few times and it was shockingly bad.

Angels Like You is smashing next, ppl are busy streaming Plastic Hearts instead

I honesty think people are being dramatic about the album being terrible because i recall everyone praising it upon release now suddenly because it bomb it’s terrible.

I don’t think the album is that bad & nothing is wrong with River it sounds like everything that’s on your radio.

The issue is she went ghost in the middle of Flowers smashing. She did barely any promotion if any during the album release or after.

If she doesn’t care why would anyone else care? She should have been out there performing River & doing special interviews.

She should have announced a tour which normally make ppl check the album out.

Just missed opportunities after the next.

The video for Jaded should be out by now? What’s the hold up? Let’s get the era moving!

The quality just isn't there, including Flowers even though it is a hit.

Nothing.

She's a legend, the era was a HIT and she doesn't care :jonnycat:

The album was terrible plain and simple :rip: The lyrics in that River song are straight up embarrassing.

I feel like her and Columbia Records should’ve waited until at least early May to drop that album. Unfortunately, they probably already pressed the vinyls before Flowers came out, which resulted in delays and edits in the album not being a possibility anymore. The label would’ve probably forced her to make another pop hit otherwise to include on the album. None of the songs besides Flowers have hit appeal. And that new version of “You” was so bad compared to the Live edition… She was literally off key the entire track
