And to think NJ’s transit system is the most extensive *statewide* system in the country Like it’s becoming increasingly apparent that the suburban boom of sprawling/cookie cutter, car dependent “communities” came in like Trojan horse disguised as the American dream. It just led to endless oil wars, which ultimately prevents the costs needed to maintain the US’s crumbling infrastructure, among other basic necessities like affordable healthcare and so on. The fact that gas prices of all things dictate the way people live and vote in the US is so embarrassing. Then there’s the homelessness epidemic and cost of housing in general too. Almost everything wrong in the US is tied to poor infrastructure/car dependency (and Reagan) Most of this exists because white Americans did not want to live near black Americans. They built highways through black neighborhoods, refused blacks housing loans, and forced them into areas they were not desired. Cities in the US actually had decent infrastructure, and many were walkable with city centers. All destroyed once white flight hit and made way for cars. You can see this trend in every city in the US. NYC is one big example of this.

You can see this trend in every city in the US. NYC is one big example of this. Oh yea, that’s a whole other part of it. The redlining that came with that, and then sending all the manufacturing plants in places like Detroit, Newark, Cleveland etc where working class (many black) citizens used to thrive were sent away to places like China. That created a new business in itself regarding the the freshly unemployed (by introducing war on drugs/mass incarceration to the inner cities). Destroying the black family as well as the working class in favor of the prison industrial complex was always the MO among American capitalists. The suburban boom in particular is what allowed middle class white famines to multiply their wealth overnight (in owning real estate). The boomers who grew up and benefitted from the suburban boom are now trying to rent young people the American dream while price gouge housing costs all together. This is why young people today are increasingly anti-suburbia and typically in favor of walkable, urban areas/cities. Theres a sense of community in it. There’s something about car dependent suburbs that created a very, very greedy, individualistic mindset among boomers who actively screw the US over.
Pendulum Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 ooookay miss China, maybe you made some points here
harwee Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 America will never have one like this. This takes nearly a decade of planning and it will be entangled in politics and corruption. Plus america's obsession with cars is truly embarrassing.
