We've all seen interesting album concepts being wasted on bad quality music, but what examples of the opposite situation can we think of?

 

This immediately came to mind. There's no real concept to it, it's just a collection of (great) songs.

Most pre-late 2010s pop albums, if we're honest. They were all solid pop album with little to no concept, and that was perfectly fine!

 It was already done by her peer in 2006 & this concept seems interesting but it was poorly executed.

I usually love those carefree pop albums with basic lyrics and catchy melodies with no concept at all

To me it feels pretty clear that Tanaka inspired this one. Finding new love after being burned by partners and friends, and being hesitant to jump in fully. They all fit in that realm.

I thought Britney's Circus was well-executed. The songs (Womanizer aside, which sticks out) all have a certain vibe, I can imagine most of them being performed in a circus context or in a circus backstage!

Kinda agree but at least the actual album is good and full of bops.

Outside this title track nothing else was Circus inspired or made any sense. Even the album cover was terribly shot.

The Circus Tour barely had any Circus songs in the setlist.

Ultraviolence by Lana Del Rey (2014). As Lana herself described back then, theres not a real specific running theme with the album. I do love the album's atmosphere a lot. Dark aesthetic and psych rock is truly where lana shines most. 

 

ANTI by Rihanna. Amazing album front to back but also no distinct concept. Just great songs that kinda fit the same aesthetics.

this tbh. a concept that is too strict is too hit or miss. i love the idea of listening to something and just zoning out. not dealing with a specific topic on each song.

1989. Little to no songs match the retro 80s vibe she was trying to say inspired its creation. It was simply (elevated) 2010s pop.

100% disagree, sorry babe.

 

Ultraviolence has a very clear theme and aesthetic. She's sarcastically and mockingly doubling down on all the negative tropes critics and journalists assigned to her during the BTD era (Ultraviolence, Brooklyn Baby, Sad Girl, PWYC, Money Power Glory, ****** My Way Up to the Top, Old Money, TOW, Florida Kilos). The '70s rock influenced normcore vibe is very pronounced, too - a total 180 from the glamor of BTD.

Agree with ALL of this, especially how Womanizer (coincidentally the lead single and the most famous song from the album) doesn't flow with the rest of the album.
