I mean they're gross but if they can save lives within medicine it's kinda cool and definitely worth a little bit of being grossed out and having your treament work/life be saved 

 

Funny story growing up: to make sure us kids never went outside barefoot, my mom used to tell us "You'll step on a maggot and it will go into your feet and travel all the way to your brain and youll never see mommy again" and scared us all sh*tless
