C'mon Substance! Come through!

Any big station or is that asking too much? :eli:

We'll know which stations in a few hours, for now it's just numbers :emofish:

This may serve endless longevity on pop radio yet not go top 50 on Hot 100 a la "Tell Me You Love Me"

After how her recents efforts have performed, we should be happy if it charts on Bubbling under :ahh:

We need her to promote tho so you can un-cross her off from your sig :wanda: The way you ended her on the previous page tho whew, I think she's used to going along with whatever her label does, but that means that since her label is lazy and cheap, she's ... well :skull:

Back when Island actually tried, oof

It's truly the only hit-material they've released in years as a single, they can't let it flop, not like this :rip:

The way Ellie is ahead of us while she won't impact until next week

that was bc of payola. I can confirm they were paying the largest radio station in NYC Z100 to play it nearly every hour.

Ellie's team is known for promoting her music well on radio. Demi's on the other hand... :toofunny3:

Demetria's mainstream pop career 2012-2018 :clap3:Jokes aside, Substance will remain a sonically beautiful masterpiece with an iconic music video. Even if it flops. Long-term our bet is ONLY on radio somehow blowing it up

:WAP:

I saw someone suggesting Substance is childish, which I disagree with so much.

It's really fun early 2000s in sound and I LOVE how playful and lighthearted the lyrics are. That's not to say they are not meaningful lyrics, because it's actually very mature in content, it's speaking about something very deep and nuanced. There's a true sense of frustration and angst like in La La Land, which gives it a youthful vibe. The playful imagery in the chorus is just literally addictive, it's candy.

I think coming from someone like Demi, who we are used to very serious songs whether it be Stone Cold or Dancing with the Devil, Substance is an immensely refreshing vibe.

It really is sisters with Lonely People, which also has an early 2000s pop rock vibe and playful imagery yet so much depth if you introspect and analyze the lyrics. Substance is probably superior though (crazy bc anyone who knows me knows I'm #1 Lonely People stan) bc it's melody is way better and overall it feels more naturally Demi.

Skin of My Teeth was great but way too heavy, and very repetitive. Substance is chaotic and beautiful, just insane lyrically and sonically. Skin of My Teeth also has heavy grittiness to it vocally that I overall do not like as much as the light smoothness in Substance.

Next single should be City of Angels, which continues the fun playful yet meaningful vibe that this era needs.

Substance and City of Angels should be the two singles pushed right now, and even if they end up flopping long-term, it will still be great moves for Demi's artistry and truly contribute to delivering a quality era (which is more important in today's climate than securing short-lived hits). Like Demi says in Substance, "Time is just passing, yet nothing lasts". No hit will matter in the long-run bc all hits are literally short-lived and in the moment. What matters is long-lasting support from fans and appreciation of Demi's artistry.

I mean also... Ellie's song is a pure pop catchy song with a rapper, basically blueprint for what's on the radio

Demi's song is a Pop/Rock song with Punk elements and her first release to radio with that sound

It would be shocking if it was the other way around actually :lakitu:

You know what next single should be Freak bc they can push it to alternative radio with Yungblud on it, and give Substance its space on pop radio (I know it's pop punk but it does seem pop radio friendly). Then after album is out, City of Angels can be the fourth and last single from the era while Demi tours (give it a cute touring video since Demi will be going to different cities)

My girls :jonny5:

it reminds me of the day that they first both shared the top 2 on pop radio with Give Your Heart a Break and Lights

Is this good?

I Love Me had 120

DWTD had 44

Met Him Last Night had 22

Many adds don't guarantee a radio hit (see ILM, which also had a radio deal lol). If the song grows, more stations will add it.

It's gonna be tough though because it's been a while since she had a hit on her own, and this is a pop/punk-rock track (a sound that isn't popular on radio).

I think the last time a song with a similar sound became a hit on pop radio was, ironically, Demi's remix of Monsters. So hopefully that song opened the door for something like Substance to grow.

Not spectacular, but it can definitely serve longevity at this rate.

Even with the update 7 minutes ago, I only see 23 pop stations tho - that 24th station must not be recognized/claimed by Mediabase

https://www.allaccess.com/mediabase/q/report/formatAdds/reporters/monitored/format/H1

getting a HAC add without an adds date tho? :clap3: maybe they should officially release it there
