to me it’s one of the things that makes an artist interesting, especially when it’s done right. i don’t think it takes away from the quality of the music or the artist’s artistry

so i’m curious as to why ATRL drags artists for using gimmicks?

Because they're boring people  maybe they should go on a classical music forum instead.

Agreed. Plus some ppl are all about the gimmicks with music that does back it up. Kim Petras comes to mind

There are good gimmicks and bad gimmicks.

 

Leaving your songs 1 year on TTH until they levitate up the charts is a bad gimmick, while writing all your songs is a good gimmick.

i do look down on artists that only rely on gimmicks like lil nas 

but i do like when theyre well used and actually entertaining 

All pop stars use gimmicks and they're imo a necessary ingredient in entertainment, but when an artist's entire career revolves around them it's usually a sign that the music isn't good enough to stand on its own
