Listened to Afterglow, not gagged by it but at least it's a little better than Eusexua. Unfortunately I do think Sushi is the best song.

I wish Flower Moon was here

It was only up for ADP after they dropped the worst k-pop song I heard in all my 16 years of following it, I guess.

I'm referring to the one they released before, the name of which I don't remember, but I'm not saying the new one is good, more like it didn't make my ears bleed. My expectations for k-pop these days are that a song is listenable, and some groups can't even achieve that.

I don't get the appeal in K-Pop at all, respectfully. Was it ever great to begin with? Did it have some golden era I should be getting into?

2015 K-pop had some absolute banger albums, I'll say that. Reboot, Basic, Exodus, Odd, The Red, 4 Walls... Whew. Since then...

Well, to me, the second gen (from Brown Eyed Girls' debut in 2006 to 2016 when most of the 2nd gen groups disbanded) was that. The first gen also produced some great soloists, including BoA herself. It's had some moments of greatness since then, and I was quite optimistic about gen 4, but the juice has run out, and two of the most promising groups fell victim to litigation.

You had a lot of people on this forum switch to k-pop back in 2015-2016, and for a good reason. Now you need groups like Katseye that aren't k-pop but are run by k-pop companies for people to be interested in something k-pop adjacent.

It's interesting you guys say those were the best years for the genre because from my European perspective I only saw people getting into K-Pop and the genre becoming really huge internationally from 2016 or 2017 onwards. What are your thoughts on these supermainstream groups like BTS, Red Velvet, Blackpink, Aespa, etc? I'm not really moved by any of them.

Red Velvet are good but are at their best when they lean more into the R&B side of things in my opinion. Something which they... just don't seem to do anymore. I still listen to Automatic and Oh Boy quite a bit.

The other groups...

I can only tell that when Kpop got big people became so extremly annoying and toxic about it omg :rip: Every person I met irl who loves Kpop is toxic and shady.

Only now I have one girl at work who likes BTS and she's cool

IRL bestie is a huge Blackpink stan and I just... have never understood it. Whistle was good for a moment but beyond that, they do absolutely nothing for me.

K-pop stans were always pretty toxic even back in 2012-2015 but it's absolutely ramped up post-BTS/Blackpink

Red Velvet was cute. Are we including Loona too in this conversation? Idk how mainstream they got, but they had their moments
