she's average at best. she's an okay singer, okay "rapper" (i don't really consider anyone who doesn't write a rapper but let's keep that) and an okay performer

i think you hit the nail on the head with that description, it was just timely enough to sound like the music being released then but they never attempted to make anything sonically different than what was popular at the time. even their last release was produced by skrillex and was dated on the spot

 

2NE1 has songs that fall in that territory too but luckily they pushed the envelope enough that there's some timeless gems on each of their alberms

and tbh I have the same problem with a lot of western pop from around the same time. very much of its time but still not far enough back, and that’s why I can’t get into acts that try to throw back to that already (mostly Ava Max but I’ve heard others here and there). it’s still recent enough that it just sounds dated instead of intentional

Kpop stans fixation on bad nfts are for the planet is interesting to me. I mean, NFTs are a plague, but it’s not like the kpop industry is exactly known for being eco friendly in the first place. How do you complain about blockchain or whatever it’s called and then buy 20 albums, all being shipped across the world? What’s the carbon footprint of that? How much energy on both ends would you be using by streaming an MV for an hour… You know what I mean?
