How did Break It Off even manage to reach the top 10 on the Hot 100? I'm always so baffled by that song's chart success.

the featured rapper was a huge name back in 2006 and it helped the song a lot, so I assume it got radio’s support. Looking at the song’s wiki page: it reached #6 on pop airplay charts and #21 on the rhythmic charts.

I think it was album-only for an extended period of time and then when it was high up on radio they made it available. That’s what she did with SOS and Umbrella too. Back when it was lucrative to tease songs on radio before release like what people do with Tik Tok now
