Y'all always take some takes too drastically, I think there's nothing wrong in would like also a different direction from a vocal point of view, but probably this won't be the right project for that considering the genre.

Yeah I'm not sure why 'Heal me' was supposed to smash, the mention is kind of random but the song was good, all the bops from the ASIB soundtrack are, her early work could be more an indication of softer vocals being liked by the general audience anyway including the BM resurgence.

Well that is definitely not my case considering I just posted an alternative rock song from 'The Smashing Punpinks' from 90s as example of that, it is just a way of saying like 'dark bop', you can call it in another way if you prefer.

Oh that wasn't aimed at you. I'm thinking more of like a gay twink in his early 20s who thinks Gaga would need to serve sex doll in a video to a bubblegum pop song in order to smash now. Honestly, vocals are just a component of the music itself. So many disparate factors, related and unrelated to music, go into determining if a song smashes.

To me 'softer vocals' is about what @Artur said earlier, I would like a kind of album where I can relax-chill (but still bop) since I've been listening mostly to that kind of music lately, slow jams and R&B a la Janet Jackson like for example:

 

 

 

but like I said, it will be very likely that she's gonna serve powerful vocals for a rock album in majority of songs at least since that genre requires more that vocal direction.

this song and it's parent album are brilliant 

Also Ga has a deep voice/vocal although I commend her that she experimented her vocal within the softer approach but it doesn't suit her. Also, softer vocal does not mean mid-tempo with Ga's songs. 

I expect songs in this vibe for the new album, which for me was among the best ones (if not the best) from 'Joanne'.

LOVE this song

Gaga's hideous and out of touch way of singing is the #1 reason she's flopping and radio rejects her music including Shallow. It's not just that she shouts, a lot of divas shout and belt. It's also how she does it. She does it with this ugly affectation like she thinks she's Edith Piaf doing Broadway...doing a pop song. Rain on Me wouldn't have bombed on radio if she hadn't started shouting from the first second ("IIIII DIDNT ASSSSSKK FOR A FREE RIDE!!!!). Shouting on pop/dance songs doesn't work. 
 

She needs vocal producers in the studio with her at all times to tell her how to do it, because she's not as smart as she thinks. Likewise she needs great co-writers with her at all times. This is the kind of song that calls for shouting, and this is the way to do the shouting:
