I honestly think this could absolutely match the first's ww gross, potentially even surpass it and break the record. The original was banned in China, so it's not like the current film restrictions there should affect it either (comparatively). At the end of the day, the bulk of the original's core audience will show up and Gaga's casting (and the musical aspect) will have appeal to other audiences, specifically female and older demos. And Gaga's starpower is imfamously global, see HoG playing like gangbusters internationally. The film would have to straight up panned garbage or wildly polarizing (think Babylon or mother!) to do substantially less than the original imo.
