Yes, not all of them can be nominated since there are 5 slots. That's why we talk about contenders and Gaga was always one of them.

And JFAD is not Dark Knight Rise so your comparison is meaningless.

Also we are just talking about possibilities here? we never were 100% sure about her to be actually make it so stop being a dramaqueen

I was talking about being in contention, then you replied about her being in the conversation. She's Lady Gaga, she'll always be in the conversation.

The Dark Knight wasn’t a Best Picture contender or the most nominated film of its year; it never shook off its identity as a summer blockbuster, not in the same way that Joker managed to be taken seriously as an adult drama and character study. Heath Ledger was the undeniable anomaly.

 

Considering JFAD seems to be burrowing itself further as an auteur film with 1970s musical aspirations, and that it will likely debut in competition at films festivals just like the first, there is no way it won’t form a major part of early awards season talk in the way TDKR never would have even if its reception wasn’t as mixed compared to TDK.

 

But I agree that it’s going to be a major moment for her regardless. An Oscar nomination is not the be all and end all of success.

We are not forcing in her to be contender on some kind of random blockbuster disney film. 

Sequels of critically acclaimed movies don’t always get the same amount of love. I would advise this base to temper expectations tbh. 
 

OT: I jsut watched the performance again and her taking off the monitor mid performance was kind of a serve and a half. 

But wow what a moment

Have you guys read any articles from publications about award season? During early season, they will always put films with big names and Oscar bait films in their Oscar prediction, even if they haven't released. There is nothing wrong about saying Gaga is in the contention, every Hollywood publications would do so early next year anyway. It's not that serious, It's not us being cocky or ignorant, It's just how the early award season discussion always is.

I watched a clip of audience view, surprisingly It's better than the official broadcast version, it made me love this rendition so much more. ABC is so bad at production.

I just said that cause that’s the reason Gaga is getting more views than the 480p version of someone else’s performance 

I agree with the idea that just because Joker 2019 was well received by the Academy, it doesn't mean J:FaD will as well. However, the comparisons between The Dark Knight and TDKR are silly because there wasn't any "meaty" role in TDKR and it was, just like TDK, an action film. TDK was just a much better film than TDKR.

 

Joker 2019 was a Drama that just happened to feature a comic book character, it was much easier for the Academy to feel comfortable there. That being said, there are a lot of question marks regarding J:FaD. Will the musical aspect of it be small or big? Will the story be centered around Arthur Fleck/Joker or will it be a two leads situation? Will Todd continue to feel, um, inspired by Martin Scorsese? 

 

 

Award season starts with speculations even 1 year before the Oscars. You get predictions of movies that have yet to be released only for those movies to be moved to a later release year. 

 

Gaga is a 1x Best Actress nominee, and almost got her second. She will star to a sequel of a Best Picture nominee, of course she will be on the radar for the award seasons.

 

Yes, Liddos can just enjoy her movie output without screaming Oscar buzz. But in the world of Movie Award Season followers, they will always have expectations and will put directors, writers and actors with previous award showing in predictions no matter what up until the movie's critical reception comes.

And even if it wasn’t, that’s not even really a defense. No one cared about it enough for the algorithm to put it first is not the great clapback the Rih stans think it is.
