would be weird to have one music icon play another 

Tbh, Gaga could have basically any role she wants within reason, same in terms of projects. A singer biopic, especially for someone as delicate/sensitive as Amy, would be an uninteresting choice at best. If it didn't turn out well, she'd get dragged and lashed endlessly.

I do agree though she has looked like Amy sometimes, mainly around Joanne era when she was skinny af and had done procedures in her face. Still I wouldnt want Gaga to play her.

Gaga is at a healthy weight there, Amy was almost always skinny. Their eyes are scarily similar there.
