I agree the song would've likely won a GF category a year later, but honestly that whole campaign was so iconic that I'm glad it happened the way it did. 

The following year the secret comittee for sure blocked ASIB in AOTY, no way the album didn't get enough votes to get in since indeed even ARUTW made it to SOTY without being a hit in the US, proof that the project had support, it got the genre nomination (and won), it was the best selling album during eligibity period, acclaimed and with an Oscar winner song in it, not to mention it was a genre appealing multiple fields (roots, country, pop, traditional, ecc.).

Even a panned 15 minutes EP of Lil Nas got shamelessly nominated in AOTY.

 

However in 2020 nothing would have changed if they would have submitted 'Shallow' the following year and like they have blocked ASIB they would have probably done the same with 'Shallow' in GF, it would have still remained Billie Eilish year.

Yeah, it's not a big deal at this point, like I said her having 13 (won in very competitive categories) remains still impressive for a divisive artist like her.

An Emmy, Oscar and Tony for acting would be more impressive and rare for a singer for sure along with the 1B$ movie (where she's the lead star acting, not voice over a supporting cartoon character that get dubbed all over the world).

 

 

Ga Ga shade?

 

There was a specific moment during the piano segment where I felt like I was watching that video of her performing Captivated / Electric Kiss. I'm pretty sure it was one of the verses of 1000 Doves or Fun Tonight, I can't remember. As unnecessary long as the piano segment is, it felt nice to have that intimate moment of her, alone at a piano, just like how things were in the beginning.

Film/acting award shows are much more prestigious and are willing to nominate acts that are critically acclaimed instead of commercially successful. There are also more populous acting award shows that honor blockbuster hits. But actors that win at those shows rarely get nominated at the more prestigious shows like the Oscars 
Music awards all nominate the same people across shows. The people nominated at the VMAs are most likely the people that will be nominated in the general categories at the Grammys. They are slowly becoming the same show

 

So to end my thesis. It is good that Gaga has a handful of Grammys because they still hold some weight culturally, but it is not the end of the world if she never wins a general award. We need our girl to win more prestigious acting awards. 
An acting academy award is 100 times more impressive than winning SOTY, ROTY or AOTY 

Grammys will definitely become like VMAs in less than 10 years, irrelevant, their ratings have became low and bad, the young generations don't care or watch awards ceremonies, no new star is saving them from their decline and in the last years they gave an award almost to everybody new in the game, there are too many categories, whereas one time they were more hard to win for certain kind of popular popstars.

The Weeknd controversy and all the mess of 2 years ago about their corruption being exposed did already a big damage on them.

They're definitely the award who hold a lot less prestige out of the 4 EGOT.

I wish The Edge of Glory was not always done at the piano. It's a stadium sized pop banger. Gar just loves her piano.

I don't disagree with you - but the studio version might be a bit too hard for her to do now. I just think about her laying down for the majority of it at enigma and it was still kind of rough.
