Even though I agree with you on some points, I think people hold Taylor to higher standards because she has proven that she's capable of so much more than most artists. She wrote "Speak Now" entirely by herself at 19, she recorded "folklore" and "evermore" — two of her best albums, in my opinion — within the same calendar year. And that wasn't even that long ago… That's why, as a longtime fan, my first impression of these new songs is honestly laughable. They almost feel like a parody of the cringey version of Taylor Swift that late-night shows used to make fun of back in 2012. I don't know if she's bored at home, if she genuinely thinks this is the sound she wants to pursue, or what, but it just doesn't feel like her at her best. She's capable of SO much more, both sonically and lyrically, and I think that's where a lot of the frustration comes from. It's not that people expect her to reinvent herself with every release. She could stay in the same lane for years, but at least do it well… and this is just not the case.

I've been a Miley fan since 2006, and it's honestly so sad to think about her potential as an artist. We don't expect her to be the next Taylor Swift, but it would be nice to see her embracing her art or even sticking to an era for more than two days after the album is released. She is so talented, charismatic, and versatile that she could do and be SO much more, and the only person holding her back is herself. It's gotten to the point where you just have to enjoy the music without expecting ANYTHING from her because she won't really do anything with the era beyond releasing the album. It's stupid for us to care about numbers when she isn't even able to promote her **** work in the first SEVEN days, especially considering she does absolutely nothing for the other 358 days of the year.

This is all Miley's fault btw.
