There was a shift with Renaissance - The Club Renaissance parties - The replay value to the point people were listening to the album front to back for months straight - randomly hearing songs from the album out and about in NYC - The tour You really just had to be there to understand the magnitude of that album. Sometimes I feel bad for the people who didn't get it but then I remember how liberating it was for the people who did.

The opinions on this album are already so polarizing; either people really love it or really hate it. (Amala, the artist you are) My first listen was in the gym today and had such a fun time (I've replayed it twice since then). I can bet if your first listen was with good headphones and you were moving around/energized you probably enjoyed this album too. With that being said I do understand some of the critiques when it comes to lyrics; songs blending into each other, Silly Fun, etc. But one thing I've noticed when it comes to reception surrounding Doja's new releases people are so quick to write it off in comparison to the previous project. Some of the same feedback I'm seeing from Vie was given to Scarlet, yet people are now praising Scarlet. Doja is an artist whose music is infectious. It grows on you over time. Whether it's a catchy phrase, melody or production choice she has an ear for hit making and there are a few potential hits on here. If she comes with iconic visuals and performances I can see this album having legs.

Back in her YouTube days she used to post 'coven sessions ' where she basically would create short songs/concepts to work on her craft. Sleepy hallow sampled the video below in 23, chorus became viral on TikTok and fans started asking for a solo version, she went in the studio and now she's capitalizing off of it Honestly in the grand scheme of things her getting a potential top 10 hit off her playing around her room is very mother of her

I'm sorry but none of the noms listed in the category had a bigger moment than Not Like Us. If you weren't there/aren't tapped in you probably don't understand but the whole Drake vs. Kendrick rap beef was a true cultural moment in Hip Hop. It goes way beyond just Kendrick "ending Drake's career" because what Kendrick did with this beef is something that had never been done before in Hip Hop history. This man made a full on EP destroying Drake's character and exposing his camp all while displaying lyricism, technicality and creative intention/integrity. All for Not Like Us to debut at #1 on the Hot 100, break the record as the longest #1 song on the rap charts and hit a billion streams in under a year Then for him to go and get a deal with Amazon Prime to perform the song for the first time (and 6x more) at a POP UP concert on JUNETEENTH in LA where he brought bloods and crips together To releasing an iconic music video on Independence Day that currently has 209M+ views and growing especially with the current UMG lawsuit Now we're weeks aways from him likely performing the song on the Super Bowl stage a lot of y'all are underestimating this song.

I’m so proud of her the way this album has been in rotation, it’s truly a grower in the best way possible. I see the longevity. I truly hope she gets some accolades out of this project. Going to see if I can snag some last minute tickets to her show tonight at terminal 5.

'Black girl here, Black girl with the Black girl hair' has been playing in my head all day today. I'm not sure if some of y'all in here are just not aware of Chloe x Halle's work (outside of Ungodly Hour and Chloe's solo music) but this is very on brand for their original sound. It seems like everybody on this board is chart obsessed and numbers focused but Chloe nor Halle never really gave those type of vibes. This is a song that is very personal to her and you can tell by her vocal delivery, which makes sense for a debut song. Also to say this song is 'corny or overdramatic' is very tone deaf. Especially with the context of tlyrics and them basically being affirmations Halle had to tell herself when she was faced with so much racism and backlash after the TLM announcement. Then again I get why this song wouldn't resonate with a lot of you...
