  1. Indeed, The Bodyguard has sold over six million copies in Asia.
  2. Most Asian markets broke down since 2000(except Japan), so that's the reason.
  3. Over 9m: Stevie Wonder Eminem And Britney sold 8.8m (if she got an update)
  4. There are loads of artists who sold over 10m albums in the US or Europe, as a comparison, in Asia, only 14 Western artists have managed to sell 10 million copies or more. As I've gathered a lot of information on chartmasters, these artists are shown below: The Beatles 39.4m Mariah Carey 33.7m Michael Jackson 25.6m Madonna 20.2m Celine Dion 19.9m Queen 18.7m Eric Clapton 15m Whitney Houston 14.3m Enya 12.5m Deep Purple 12.3m Bon Jovi 12m Led Zeppelin 11m Simon & Garfunkel 10.8m ABBA 10m As of 22/01/2025 Got a favorite artist? Or any surprises?
  5. And there're more female artists on the list!
  6. Maybe someone can offer some young artists who are also huge in Asia
  7. Yesssss! In Japan, Enya even outsold Whitney
  8. Would you agree that these 9 artists are the most successful western artists ever in Asia, the biggest continent of the world?
  9. I don't think Beyonce is too close to the general public with her current musical routes. I'm Asian and what I can relate to is that Beyonce was a big star all the way up to "4" ERA. But the albums after that, it's like she just disappeared, no big hits or hit albums. Admittedly, I recognize that Asians are more partial to white artists, but a lot of black artists have also achieved more than white artists in this part of the world, so I think Beyonce could have gained a lot if she was willing to sing songs in a more pop style.
  10. In the 90's or 2005-2008, when Mariah was at her peak, many countries in the world did not have a well-established music industry (maybe they still don't have one right now), like in Asia, where Mariah sold nearly 34 million pure albums in just 11 markets - Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Philippines, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and India (There are 36 countries in Asia as defined by IFPI!) There was no streaming in Mariah's time to give a full and complete picture of an artist's popularity in all countries, but in Mariah's case, she did work wonders, and I prefer purely physical sales to streaming!
  11. Personally, I think it counts as a racial choice. Mariah is not only a massive seller in Japan, she is the top selling international artist in many Asian countries and regions such as South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, etc. Asians made their choice not only because they like Mariah's music but also other factors such as her image, Asians like Mariah as much as Europeans like abba. But it is saddening to note that when Mariah's musical persona returned to the black community, Asia is no longer as supportive of Mariah as they used to be, they preferred mimi who sang ballads.
  12. I'm inspired by @VioletsandRoses, so let's see how well these MPGs will do in Asia? CM doesn't give Celine's number, and for Chinese digital sales, they argued that needed to be multiplied by 0.6 before the Chinese market restricted repeat purchase, and could be counted 1 to 1 after the restriction. Source: chartmasters Mariah Carey - 33.73m Madonna - 20.21m Whitney Houston - 14.35m Enya - 12.52m Taylor Swift - 8.92m Britney Spears - 8.8m Avril Lavigne - 7m Janet Jackson- 5.2m Destiny Child - 4.8m Lady Gaga - 4.4m Sade - 3.9m Spice Girls - 3.6m Beyonce - 3m Jenifer Lopez - 2.98m Adele - 2.33m Ariana Grande - 2m Lana - 140k I will post others later
  13. I think Tina Turner can be there too?
  14. But why Music Box's sales in Japan decrease? According to Sony Japan, MB has sold over 2.6m in that country but chartmasters claims that it only sold 2.29m
  15. Mariah now becomes the best selling international artist in Asia, with over 33.5m albums sold in that continent. QUEEN OF ASIA
  16. When will pitchfork evaluate Butterfly? It's another of Mariah's masterpieces
  17. Because others has no Chinese digital sales!(or so little that it can be ignored)😂
  18. Only Eminem, Taylor and Avril count Chinese digital sales.
