Olivia Rodrigo - 'you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love'
Just saw that they gave her the cover of Hits Daily Doubles first Grammy special. She's got her eyes on the prize this era, for sure.

Olivia Rodrigo uses her armpit sweat to fix hair
That user was proved to be in a groupchat where they farm clips and soundbites to 'take down' or set up female artists, so it's not a surprise that there are about twenty bots spreading that video around using the same buzzwords. If she did, then awesome this is what people claimed to want to see her do when they criticized her for looking "too clean" to do kinder**** aesthetic. If she's just adjusting her bra straps then it just becomes a sea of people literally grasping at straws trying to find something cancellable about Olivia and tbh if "touched her armpit, wiped her hands off stage during a quick change, and then ran through to greet people who would 100% not mind her sweat getting on them" is the best thing people could come up with then they're in for a hell of a mental breakdown if she even wins a single Grammy in February.

Olivia Rodrigo - 'you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love'
The Cure is a strong enough song and the correct choice to go all in on. It's the highest performer on the album, it was immediately well liked and has stayed in the conversation since it debuted. It's basically the centerpiece of the tour too.

Olivia Rodrigo - 'you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love'
Those messages are clearly not from Livies, and this whole situation was stoked by Swifties so we can all put two and two together and determine who the culprits are in that situation. The ill-advised Showgirl encore was such a flop that even her chart accounts would rather talk about Olivia. Every single person online knows the Swifties have it out for Olivia, this will be done with in a day.

Olivia Rodrigo - 'you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love'
The only song that didn't cut out for me on a livestream was The Cure and it's like a reward from Olivia herself lol, that was an incredible performance of the song. Song of the year tbh.

The Guardian: "Olivia stands up for the vulnerable. I wish Taylor Swift did the same"
People bringing up donations that Taylor makes as a private citizen are kind of comparing apples to oranges. It is admirable, it is a good thing she does. But she's not doing it with the same goal as Olivia with Daisy Chain Fields which was about shining a spotlight and platforming charities and essential services under direct attack from the current administration. Those causes shouldn't be, but are "controversial" because they are focused on helping women, a lot of the time women of color, whose bodies are needlessly politicized. Taylor funding food banks is again admirable, but you know. Feeding people isn't controversial, protecting women's right to choose what to do with their bodies is. Taylor doing something like Farm Aid or Live Aid something with an actual end goal is probably what this writer wants from Taylor. Is it a fair wish to have, a fair critique to lob at a pop star? No, but this is what happens when state policy fail, people do look to those with cultural cache for help and right now pop stars have the cache to do that.

Olivia Rodrigo likes a Pitchfork IG post shading Taylor
This isn't even a diss or bad comparison. Taylor Swift had great lead singles, she's not interested in doing that anymore (releasing lead singles) so that's why they're saying "used to". And she just came off what was essentially a greatest hits tour and re-recording her old music, I don't think it's a stretch to say that nostalgia and bigger hits in her past catalogue are part of a reason why she's still popular today. And her old stuff is much more popular that her new stuff anyways.

Phoebe Bridgers - 'Lost Weekend'
Conor Oberst? Better Oblivion Community Center II incoming I hope, that's such a great album.

Olivia Rodrigo - 'you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love'
There's a video she just posted to her stories about the Lego collab and she's carrying a honeybee tote bag, so I guess that's the big hint for the next single.

Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce invited Amentum executive and ICE contractor Steve J.
"when you have 1000 guests inviting someone who has a multi-billion dollar contract to build concentration camps is par for the course!" well you see. maybe she didn't need to invite 1000 people to start with and secondly. i think when inviting another billionaire, it might actually be good to know where their money comes from. she's a billionaire and everyone wants to act like she didn't get there by exploiting people but she did, and it calls into question what she's doing with her money outside of managing her music and her real estate.

Swiftie accidentally confirms that Taylor indeed demanded credits from Olivia
I think Olivia has handled the situation as well as anyone could have, and Swifties have been super delusional about Olivia. 'Nothing New' proves that Taylor's been having nightmares about a new pop star whose exact description fits Olivia Rodrigo to the letter since the Red sessions, and both of them have gotten their shots in. Taylor looks suspect after making the buying and selling of her albums a key component in her modern persona (the situation being framed as traumatizing, her becoming someone who fights for artists, she's a mastermind for devaluing her masters and buying them back) and Olivia will forever be looked down upon as a copycat artist and will have an extra deluded fandom breathing down her neck for her entire career. The true and ultimate villain here is that fandom. Taylor is at the height of her power, and they're bored and miserable and won't let sleeping dogs lie.

She might actually be reviving Lilith Fair, or something female focused like that event. That's pretty cool.

UPDATE: Halsey vs Fantano: Fantano drags Halsey's past making out with underage fans
Fantano's review was out of line, but there will never be anything cool about calling out a bad review. It will always make you look thin skinned and petty lol, there was an actress this weekend who did the same thing and it was such a terrible ******* look.

Olivia Rodrigo - 'you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love'
she's going vegan! I had been thinking tomorrow's announcement was more tour dates, maybe dates for performances in Asia or Latin America, some Australian/NZ shows. But I don't think she'd go on GMA for that. Maybe an initiative for her Fund 4 Good, or a documentary or something?

Hot 100 final preds: Taylor #1x2 (405p), Ella #2 (294p), Olivia #3 (272p)
I love the idea of Taylor Swift not being threatened when "Nothing New" exists lol. If we believe the whole concept of the vault songs to heart that means she's been having nightmares about a girl like Olivia coming along since 2011.

Olivia Rodrigo - 'you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love'
It's a non-inflammatory interview, mostly talking about the actual music and her influences so at the end of the day people will forget about it in like a week just like most people forgot about the dumb babydoll dress discourse. Stans will be riled up for a minute, but she's been trying to build up a wider and older audience and this is a good way to do that. Honestly I'd rather her do a purely music-based interview with Fantano over chasing tabloid headlines and getting embroiled in stan twitter clickbait with a Call Her Daddy appearance.

Olivia Rodrigo - 'you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love'
I love how the songs are interweaved with each other, starting with Stupid Song. the line about being a thread coming undone which leads to The Cure, the whole idea of New York being so sad without him and then moving in together and the anxiety about being over-attached that ripples through Purple. Even the reference about skipping meals leading into her not being able to eat in What's Wrong With Me. She called The Cure the climax of the album, but Stupid Song is the "I Want" song. Drop Dead in this situation kind of acts like a prologue of sorts. I know she doesn't want to call it a concept album, but it's a concept album! It's basically a movie musical lol.

Fantano on Taylor/Olivia: "She's taking a Nicki Minaj approach to the new generation"
It is very interesting that Taylor does frequently try to befriend the next new thing (whether it's an Ice Spice 15 minutes of fame thing or befriending Lorde to make a friend out of a potential challenger) and the friendship kind of fizzles out, and Olivia was on the list. She had her announce Fearless TV, she gave her a ring and everything and overnight it changed. Whether in reaction to Olivia's mega-success or the credit situation, this cold war stands out because it's so unlike Taylor. She's everyone's best friend, but pointedly Not in this situation. And it does come off as mean because Olivia was a true blue fangirl and something happened, and the next thing you know Taylor's basically calling every other Gen Z girl up for a collab and Olivia's torn up her stan card. Like that **** is personal. But it's definitely not comparable to Nicki Minaj in any way.

Olivia Rodrigo - 'you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love'
I saved Cigarette Smoke until I could give it the proper attention and damn, the swell of that bridge. In this listen I finally put my finger on why I liked "Less" and it's because it reminded me Olivia's version of "Still Hurting" from The Last 5 Years, and in the same way Cigarette Smoke sounds like the curtain coming down on the relationship, a bleak finale (truly the bleakest song she's ever written). The album looping around to Drop Dead after that is kind of like restarting the movie. It's brilliant.

Olivia Rodrigo - 'you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love'
Also, she's just so funny. The spoken sections in My Way and Expectations made me laugh, I can see people being obsessed with her delivery on both songs.

Olivia Rodrigo - 'you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love'
Finally getting to listen with proper headphones and yeah, I was already fully in the tank for Olivia but this is something really special! The one-two punch of Maggots for Brains and U + Me = <3 is beyond, like wow a pop girl actually sounding alive and inspired, amazing. She's still at the point where she is not too famous to have lost all perspective and that makes the album work tremendously. There's just these little moments sprinkled throughout the album that make me throw my hands up at the simplicity and effectiveness. Like the line "they say modern love's a cruel endeavor/and to that i say '**** that whatever'" is a line that a lot of people are gonna be kicking themselves over not writing lol, it's not overthought and delivered with such personality. It's great, I'm very happy to have an album from a mainstream pop girl that feels inspired and considered.

Olivia Rodrigo - 'you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love'
That makes me laugh because the only person to blame for the negative reaction to those albums is Taylor herself. Like, Olivia was off-cycle minding her business why is she responsible for that slop.

Spotify | I Knew It, I Knew You | Day 7: #9 WW (3.476m), #3 US (1.33m)
Not for nothing, it is very funny at defending the fact that this is a "country" song as if that is not the most successful and some would say it is (unfortunately) the defining genre of the decade in the US and the song is falling there as well. Then again, the song isn't modern country at all, plus that is an audience and an establishment she might never win back should she decide to drift back into the country lane. Another reason why it's not connecting.
