Oh my god this is sensational. I think the middle section loses steam and is pretty weak, I think I'd move around or cut Overdramatic/Rather be Alone/Crash Out to change the flow a bit. Cloud 9 is insane

I wanted to really love this, enjoyed the lead single and I was so stoked to see a Model/Actriz feature after the singer wrote on SB. Unfortunately it falls into a similar trap that I think she falls into often, wherein she has a really unique idea but can't really commit to the bit. I feel like the path after Something Beautiful was to fully send it, and double down on some of its weirder elements. This feels more like an album that says, "how do I package this to get buy in".

Don't Leave Me on the Dancefloor was my favourite single (and one of my fave CRJ songs ever) and I felt like I'd enjoy the Night half a lot more, and I was right. Both are absolutely fantastic though, it's so lush and well produced. I think because it's two albums stitched in one rather than the usual Side A > B release cycle, I think it'd benefit from a few tweaks, but in an age where albums are getting shorter I love this return to a fully fleshed out experience. Also my god, the stretch from Never Let a Good Thing Die to Near or Far is just sublime

Absolutely! I'm sure that one day the tables will turn, and he'll feel a similar way about something or someone special to him being torn away. I think as long as the fact that you're self-aware about it being parasocial, there's nothing wrong with feeling the way you do (I went through something similar when SOPHIE passed and I'd never met the woman a day in my life).

I was recently listening to Matt Bernstein's "A Bit Fruity" and there's an episode on exactly this, it seems as though it's always been a latent streak within her. She now joins Grimes among others on a list I've titled:

I can't speak to your experiences, but I can definitely speak to my own. I had a fairly tumultuous relationship with both parents for very similar reasons and I'm now solidly no contact. I think the fact that you're more capable of feeling and expressing emotion is an incredible gift, and it's something that many people lack (including him). Focus on things that bring you joy, and know that there's an entire world beyond that stressful relationship. It's hard, but I promise there's joy and love and found family on the other side. I think in 10-15 years time this will see a cult classic re-appraisal not unlike Kylie's Impossible Princess. I love when musicians do off-kilter detour albums like this, it's so interesting and it's got some of my favourite cuts of hers on it (The Drama )

absolutely f***ing floored by this album, what an insane triumph and creative re-peak - I was expecting more of a legacy sequel but this is so much more of like... the second side of the same coin? it's still incredibly expressive and dance-y but it's so vulnerable, especially as the album goes on. really love the way it feels like a night out, you got lost in the club, and now you're drunk taking a sad uber or walk home would've loved to have seen Nellee Hooper and Graham Massey on this, there's something very 808 State about a few of the cuts once summer hits the southern hemisphere I need to be OUTSIDE with this and Renaissance back-to-back (also give me a remix of My Sins are My Saviour that samples the beat of Victimhood by Björk )
