So I actually really liked Love for Sale. I thought the incorporation of Tony's drawings and the muted tones of their outfits quite beautiful. But I just really enjoyed that album, it's my comfort go-to. (especially because of the livestreamed release show she did for it). BUT I think Harlequin's was the most visually inspired. It was her pulling together 'Gaga' and her jazz leanings into one place. Really did feel like her gearing back up and led into Mayhem beautifully.

I think it hits so hard because we literally remember her growing up too (because some of us are quite close in age and grew up watching and listening to her). Such a beautiful way of capturing a relationships early days, of growing up, of time passing etc. The gem of her discography and honestly my fave on the album. Would make an incredible closer for her show.

This does make me see her situation in a new light tbh. I feel for her - too many artists end up in similar situations and get trapped.

I mean it was still a smash - and she's unsigned. Huge hit single, no 1 debut, massive arena tour etc. Seeing her perform the album live before it came out was AMAZING. HOWEVER, I will say, the album didn't have the same appeal for me as her previous. It felt like it was trying too hard to be inspirational in a way that didn't ring as true or honest as her previous material. I enjoyed it, but a bit too cliche for me to come back to beyond WTHIMH.

I think some of the songs like Lush Life, Every Time We Say Goodbye and Let's Do It are genuinely standouts in her discography and vocal highlights in her career. And I hope she continues to make these albums, hopefully with more original songs as time goes on like Folie a Deux on Harlequin. BUT that being said, I understand what they aren't for everyone.

Yeah, not defending him as I don't know anything about him/his beliefs or politics. But it does seem more to be the other way around by looks of it. E.g. Gwen dragging Blake to church. I'm not even against people praying/being religious. It's a tough world, find your mindfulness wherever you can if it helps you survive. But didn't churches/religion used to be about community? E.g. anyone anywhere can turn up to their local church. An app you pay for but gives you zero connection to a local community feels exploititive in such an odd way. But I can't quite articulate it. I also find it so frightening how a seemingly normal (though she's always had an odd relationship to progressive causes - see her early comments on feminism) person can fall in with a Peter Thiel funded app. Like, girl, you might be Catholic, but you don't need to align with these people. People need to dodge these scary tech bro funded apps as much as they can. They don't have anyone's best interest at heart.

Felt quite emotional by the time it finished. Wasn't expecting as much vulnerability lyrically as she really went into. The Optimist is heartbreaking, loved We Don't Talk too. Such a mature album and shows really how she's evolved personally and musically since the last time round. Clearly the album she needed to make, if that makes sense.

The article she shared about antisemitism is from 2020 - she's clearly evolved her thinking way beyond Eve bloody Barlow since then.

When you look at the divas that came before, there is always ups and downs culturally and commercially in their careers. It's really not that deep. Artpop, while a commercial success by today's standards, was troubling time for her. I don't think it goes any deeper than that really. She pivoted and did C2C, Joanne, ASIB, shook it off, and here she is.

Yes and lemme advocate for swapping phone at bedtime for glossy magazine. Same sort of satisfaction but less doom, better sleep. I get mix of news, entertainment, lifestyle mags delivered. Good to spend time offline with.
