I think the rollout was supposed to start right after the european tour but earlier this summer she was still changing the tracklist and replacing songs

People who write things like this are the same people that call everything woke when someone is calling out any kind of injustice or mistreatment in our society. I do know a lot of people were triggered by white boy with a gun. Too much self reflection maybe?

Actually I didn't thate why I was asking. She triggered a lot of people with this album especially with certain songs. People need to separate their hate from her from her actual music but that's asking a lot on this site.

Finding her approach to tackling serious topics cringe is valid but "zero substance" feels a bit harsh when she is at least tackling those topics. It's more daring and substantial than an album of relationship songs (common occurrence in pop, not a dig at anyone).

Unrelated to others' opinions, though, not every song about serious topics has to be deeply poetic to serve its purpose.
Our society is very unintelligent and/or apathetic. Sometimes you have to meet the people where they're at to get points across.
The 'cringe' lyrics can be purposeful in that regard; more digestible and prone to activating others especially in her target age demographics.
Speaking generally and not saying this was her intent. I'm not that delusional; I just think the style has its place.

That said, I am worried about Elysium lyrically because weak, happy-charged lyrics can't be so easily forgiven and are more likely to just come across as bland lol.

Absolutely, I agree with a lot of this post. The fact that these songs address subjects that are barely ever touched in pop music already makes it one of the most interesting projects of the year regardless of the execution.

I will say though, that I feel sometimes the writing on this album is a little underrated. It has its intentionally cringe moments like THE VATICAN and MONOPOLY MAN, which aren't supposed to be taken seriously, and then some songs that try to be serious but end up having 1 or 2 bad one liners like BATSHIT INTELLIGENCE. But then there's a few songs in here with what I consider beautiful writing; GARBAGE, THE PLAGUE, GUTTER and HELL'S FRONT PORCH are all very well written. And we have to take into consideration that this is pop music and not a newspaper article; she has to make these lines fit into a rhythmic structure, she has to be relatively shallow on some of these topics because this format doesn't allow her to fully express what she wants

About ELYSIUM I'm not worried at all. I appreciate the effort Melanie made when making this album but the OG 2021 PORTALS sessions tell me she's even better when she's relaxed not having to solve world issues with her songs. I'm sure it will have some cringe moments like every other album of hers, but also a lot of gorgeous songs
