Where it all started. Janet traded her industrial dance beats for heavy metal riffs on Black Cat, a transition she felt was long overdue. It was her way of paying homage to the rock icons she grew up listening to, from Led Zeppelin to Def Leppard.

A theatrical masterpiece from the janet. album. It opens with operatic vocals from black opera singer, Kathleen Battle, before crashing into a dramatic, mid-tempo rock beat.

The "emotional collapse" of The Velvet Rope. It perfectly utilizes the "quiet-loud-quiet" dynamic of 90s grunge. The verses are vulnerable whispers, but the choruses are explosive, guitar-driven screams against domestic abuse. Fun fact: VH1 once tried to stop her from performing this song!

Imagine an opera house being hit by a freight train. From All For You, this track mixes rapid-fire staccato strings with heavy metal guitar riffs. It's industrial, aggressive, and probably her most "experimental" rock moment.

The lead single from Damita Jo that gave us a "sunny" rock pivot. It's driven by a looping, infectious guitar riff that sounds like early 2000s indie-rock. It's the perfect "windows down" anthem.
