It's was their 1.0 release. What people saw was "oh it's not that good" but what was really surprising was that Google had AI already developed and was only trickling it in bits on Android and Chrome platforms. Then in less than 2 years their model already surpassed ChatGPT.

Also, Google is the furthest along in quantum physics. They will probably use it to protect their systems against it first before some idiot releases it the public to make money and ask hell breaks lose. Hopefully we will all have move to protected systems by then. Think banking, government websites, texting and messaging platforms.
