1. Bed Chem was a single. It reached #1 on Pop.

 

2. Manchild is not a flop. In addition to reaching #1, it spent several weeks in the Top 10.

It's not even close to as big as the third biggest single from her last album, so it's definitely a lackluster performance for her.

 

OT: I don't think so, it doesn't sound like a big hit. I'm sure one of the album tracks will take off during release week instead

Bed Chem was never officially sent to radio or released physically. It crossed over on pure hype.

No song released in the entire year has done as well as the SnS singles, you're not looking at the bigger picture.

If it was released by any other pop star it wouldn't have done as great as it did but to be fair anything that she would have released would have done amazing on the charts. When it comes to public opinion a lot of people didn't really feel the song so compared to Espresso and Please Please Please it was a big let down but she's in her era where like I mentioned no matter what she releases it will be considered a "smash hit" and the album hype will probably boost the single more.
