Is it too late to join? :gaycat1:Where is the link to send in results?

Yeah, there's time. Just copy-paste the list in the OP into a PM with me and assign each song a score between one and ten, mama.

Always trying to be aware of timezone differences so I plan to keep voting open until I finish up at work tomorrow. That's about 18 hours from now.

Gonna have to be strict about the deadline after that though, as I want the first round to kick off tomorrow night. Then probably a little recess to let y'all enjoy the New Year festivities, and back again on January 2nd?

Everything going smoothly from my part :flower:

By the way, for those who added comments alongside their scores, how do we usually format them? @Graves, do you have any preferences or examples?

In case this ends up being impractical for this rate, I'll understand and save the comments for the reveals.

Intermission done. Let me carry on...

No standardization to speak of. Very much however you want.

I tend to submit mine like this:

365 - 11 - Commentary would go here.

But some girls are a fan of brackets and do it like this:

Mean girls - 4 [Commentary also can go like this.]

And then some just submit with an excel sheet so really up to you lol.

Damn, I’ve listened to three of the albums, but I don’t think I’ll be able to hit your deadline.

I'm based on CET, so I had to go to sleep for the night. Got more scores + comments completed this morning, and I should be sending my ballot in less than an hour.

I'M DONE! SENDING IT NOW!

Edit: All sent. I apologize for any inconvenience.

Here's what each album ended up averaging for me based on individual track scores (including the deluxe + bonus additions)

"Short n' Sweet": 7.00

"The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess": 8.62

"BRAT": 8.37

"Quantum Baby": 7.63

Holistically, "BRAT" is my favourite album, but I think the deluxe tracks brought its average down, while a certain Chappell song included as a bonus for this rate inflated the album's average.

Looking forward to our first round of reveals tonight. I have a feeling this rate won't be kind to ballads, and even as someone who usually defends them, there are a few I definitely won't mind being kicked out early.

Would a few more hours help? Wasn't planning on kicking off until about 8PM EST so if that sounds like a time you could get a ballot in for, then I would be open to keeping the voting gates ajar a little longer.

This should be fun :duca:

Brat: 8.02 (five 10s)

Quantum Baby: 7.75 (zero 10s)

TRAFOAMP: 7.43 (four 10s)

Short n Sweet: 6.79 (one 10)

I should be able to send my scores in the next hour :coffee:

Just submitted my scores!

Sabrina: 5.9

Chappell: 5.8
Charli: 5.2
Tinashe: 4.8

I'm kinda gagged at how low my averages are :rip: I always modify my scores to make sure I use the full range available but even still it's interesting that my pannings and praises were somewhat fairly distributed amongst the 4 albums

Sitting at 31 voters atm, more than happy with that turnout. Anybody else plan on sending a last minute ballot? :duck:

Otherwise I expect to kick off in about an hour's time, should the server cooperate. :celestial:

Hi girls. :celestial:

I'm going to start the rate by kicking out the first fifteen songs in about fifteen / twenty minutes. Would be very happy if you could join me tonight, or even catch up later on.

Either way, thank you all for voting and please enjoy the festivities as we move to crown the best pop song of 2024.

HIGH SCORES

10 x 1 (Julia Fox)

9 x 1 (GreatestLoveofAll)

LOW SCORES

1 x 4 (Ewan Chaos, jacklovesyou1, BowWow, glitch)

0 x 2 (kimberly, K$Ellie)

Sabrina's indictment track about a lover who thinks they're a lot deeper than they really are. Is it Shawn? It's probably Shawn. Unfortunately this fails to make the landing, coming across as whiny more than clever and generally reeking of something below her standards. You forget she's from the Haus of Swift until she starts penning ballads and then it all (unfortunately) falls into place.

...

Meloetta Carey: "she's so funny and likeable. but this just doesn't compare to the other songs in this rate."

Curaga: " Why does "You're so empathetic, you'd make a great wife" piss me off lol."

Ewan Chaos: " Not her following up the best song on the album with the worst, bringing it to a screeching halt smh."

Invisibility: " More Taylor-coded sludge. Let me get my heavy duty work overalls on and pump the sewers clean of this ****."

Moonlight Nation: " This has no business coming after "Espresso". Mixed feelings overall, as while there are some strong lashings deconstructing the pretentious pseudo-intellectual type who feigns empathy, some lyrics lean into "Ur So Gay" territory, which feels a bit uncomfortable."

Yeah this is not Sabrina's best. Needless To Say deserved a slot in the tracklist instead. :coffee:

An unexpected first out :clap3:

And the way my dumbass saw the lips on the number as the eye of Sauron and tried to think of how anything in 2024 would relate to that :priceless:

HIGH SCORES

8.5 x 1 (makeawish)

8 x 3 (Julia Fox, Into The Void, Ace Reject)

LOW SCORES

2 x 3 (Ewan Chaos, wish, glitch)

0 x 2 (kimberly, K$Ellie)

On which Sabrina laments that men get a lot of help in their purpose of general bastardry thanks to delusional women like herself. It's supposed to read self-deprecating but lacks a certain wit to make it so, thus it ends up a little bit whiny again. White girl diary entry sort of things.

...

Ewan Chaos: "Oh great, another bad ballad. This one's kinda giving bad Midnights B-side, which comparing anything to Midnights is insulting enough."

Moonlight Nation: " Not a fan. There are some well-written moments, but I would have preferred if the sentiment was specific to a given relationship rather than what appears to be an unfair generalization. It's just defeatist as hell, and kinda odd given we had "Good Graces" earlier completely contradicting this song's message. Sonically, it's classic Jack Antonoff in the boring way."

HIGH SCORES

9 x 3 (makeawish, Ace Reject, MP2K)

8.6 x 1 (Ken Lee)

LOW SCORES

1 x 3 (BowWow, 305, glitch)

0 x 1 (GraceRandolph)

On which Sabrina once again takes pot shots at ex Shawn Mendes, all while comparing him to her idealized man: Jacked. Kind. A bit dumb. Mmmm, yeah. Me too, girl.

She also takes the time to lament her lack of lesbian energy, in a sentiment that is kind of cute but mostly reads like another Facebook post from your older cousin. "I'm done with men! Becoming a lesbian in 2025!!" Cue laugh emojis from the worst people you know. Shudders.

...

Curaga: ""I'll be in the kitchen moanin' and bitchiin'"; GIRL, can you be funny in a way that doesn't set feminism back several decades lmao. Maybe I'm being too anal retentive, but all the gender stereotype lyrics on this album are annoying me."

Ewan Chaos: " I wish the country twang-ish songs on here were better. But they were at least better than the outright ballads."

Invisibility: " A great intersection/use of her country sensibilities. She sells any story in this soundscape, so it helps this is quite heartfelt and feels sincere, while still managing to be full of her trademark humor."

Moonlight Nation: " Really appreciate the Kacey Musgraces influences here, but while fairly well-executed lyrically, I'm torn on the overall sentiment, especially in the context of the album"

omg I didn't think 2 of my Sabrina 0's would go out first... love that for me.

"Slim Pickins" deserved to stay a while longer!

Posted

I still stand by my comment on Slim Pickins on that country ish song over the ballads. The ballads to me are perfect examples of what made Sabrina's pre-Espresso music so bad and it was a shame she couldn't shed it fully to make an album of only great tracks. Oh well.

7.8 x 1 (GreatestLoveofAll)

LOW SCORES

3 x 3 (Meloetta Carey, wish, K$Ellie)

2 x 4 (Rev8, Ewan Chaos, glitch, GraceRandolph)

An early Chappell track, on which she reflects on her attempts at stardom in California ending before she had achieved them. She ends up begging to be rescued by the familiarity of the folks back home. It's a relatable sentiment to anybody who's taken that big step of moving away from the family, but you lot seemed to find it a snooze instead.

...

Meloetta Carey: "car commercial music."

Rev8: " booring."

Invisibility: " Bit boring for a non-ballad in this album."

Moonlight Nation: " a striking snapshot that's all too real for aspiring artists who fail to get their breakthrough. I appreciate how it contrasts with the joy and freedom of "Pink Pony Club", making her disappointment even more heartbreaking."
