K$Ellie Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Spring Breakers out is nasty work… deserved top 20 at least

Graves Posted January 14 Author Posted January 14 HIGH SCORE 10 x 6 (Moonlight Nation, Julia Fox, kimberly, MusicLoverDude, Ken Lee, wish) 9.5 x 1 (GreatestLoveofAll) LOW SCORE 3 x 2 (redsing707, Dark Miracles) 0 x 1 (Ewan Chaos) A musing on modern romance and the dreaded casual fling. Clearly there's a depth to the relationship in question that puts it beyond meaningless sex, but one of the partners is still unwilling to commit and claim Chappell, and will continue to brush it off as merely a casual thing. This makes for a sadly relatable track and one of the record's better slow burn songs. Was also released a a single back in 2022, with a video that has a cute mermaid theme and a whirlwind romance between Chappell and a literal siren, a pretty great visual all things considered! Bit low for this one! Ken Lee: "What a flawless song." Invisibility: "Fortunately, this is a good one! It helps how affectedly she's singing "eating me out im the passenger's seat" in the chorus." Moonlight Nation: "An honorary 11. I adore the amount of detail in the composition and how the song gradually shifts from disillusionment and shame to heartbreaking anger at the situation she found herself in. Impeccable performance from Chappell." 1 2
wish Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Ugh nooo I love Casual so much, definitely the best slow burner on the album. Y'all kinda underrated her!

Graves Posted January 14 Author Posted January 14 HIGH SCORE 10 x 7 (MusicLoverDude, makeawish, K$Ellie, Graves, Invisibility, Curaga, BowWow) 9.5 x 2 (kimberly, greento) LOW SCORE 2 x 1 (Dark Miracles) 1.5 x 1 (Ken Lee) Chappell Roan makes an attempt at an early-Gaga esque pop-stomper on this song, and its very verbose title. 2009 is calling. I think for a lot of us this song recalls an era that we look back at with fond memories... I mean, just look at all of those tens! Chappell dumps men for good on this one, declaring that a super modern girl like her only deserves an equally modern woman to match her freak. Not an official single, but it did get a quick little video. Chappell saw it as a song that could fit on the Barbie soundtrack, and I guess I see it. A bit of a moment tbh, cut too soon (like a couple of Chappell songs!). Meloetta Carey: "Anytime a pop girl makes a song like this I feel ... targeted; at least Chappell added her signature youth pastor charm to this one." Curaga: "We're leaving the planet, and you can't c*m! " Ken Lee: "Spoken intro is fun but it falls apart from there." Invisibility: "THE second best song in the rate. Really wish I had another 11. It's Hurricane Chappell hitting the shores of ***** and causing mass devastation. Sometimes all I need is pop that rams it up to 11, and the energy is def off the charts here." Moonlight Nation: "Can't believe I was lowkey sleeping on it prior to the rate. Hilarious, gloriously campy, and anthemic all at the same time. What a brilliant tune!" 2
Curaga Posted January 14 Posted January 14 (edited) Well, that was a choice! (eliminating this song already, I mean) Love that pic of her Edited January 14 by Curaga 1

Ewan Chaos Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Oops at my sabotage on back-to-back songs nnn thank God Casual's finally out. Spring Breakers I do genuinely like but there's no way I'm letting it outshine most of the standard edition
Graves Posted January 14 Author Posted January 14 HIGH SCORE 10 x 2 (Curaga, redsing707) 9 x 2 (Frappucino, Into The Void) LOW SCORE 5.5 x 1 (Quicksand) 5 x 1 (jacklovesyou1) One of the more "complete" tracks on Quantum Baby, When I Get You Alone has Tinashe riffing over a lowkey, skittering beat. Her breathy vocals give way for a slight switch-up at the end of the track, where she employs a Beyoncé-esque rap singing. A cute track! With this cut, Tinashe is down to just her singles. A shame, perhaps, but no denying that the last three tracks from miss Nashe are total bangers - let's hope they can hold out for a while longer... Meloetta Carey: ""Touch Pass" vibes." Moonlight Nation: "The production work on both parts is sublime. There's something so lush about this song, and Tinashe flows smoothly throughout." 2
kimberly Posted January 14 Posted January 14 is "Don't Smile" still in or did I forget to cross it out? because what the hell 1

Graves Posted January 14 Author Posted January 14 HIGH SCORE 10 x 2 (MusicLoverDude, wish) 9.5 x 1 (Invisibility) LOW SCORE 3.5 x 1 (Ewan Chaos) 2 x 1 (Dark Miracles) Loving the devil drag in the video, she's serving hot like hell with that get-up. The track... I'm a bit colder on that front. Not a bad song at all, don't get me wrong, and this release was definitely around the time you can see the more fully-realized version of Chappell Roan starting to emerge. But I'll be real, ever since I read Miss Ewan's comment down there I haven't been able to not hear this as a Midnights castoff I'm sorry to the Swifties and Midwest Princesses alike! Meloetta Carey: "The drum beat reminds me of "Closer" by NiN but this is so 2019 in a really triggering way." Ewan Chaos: "The Taylorisms leapt out (derogatory)." Invisibility: "It's made even better with the music video, I really love the shot of Chappell taking out the cigarette from the guy's mouth and taking a hit, to me that's cinema." Moonlight Nation: "3 minutes and 43 seconds allowing you to indulge in intense toxicity. Everyone needs it once in a while, and I thank Chappell for providing us with the sequel to Lily Allen's "Smile" amped up to 11." 2
kimberly Posted January 14 Posted January 14 HOT TO GO! should not be outlasting some of these other, better Chappell bangers
Graves Posted January 14 Author Posted January 14 11 x 1 @wish HIGH SCORE 10 x 5 (305, Julia Fox, Rev8, BowWow, Terylee) 9.3 x 1 (Moonlight Nation) LOW SCORE 3 x 1 (redsing707) 0 x 1 (kimberly) Was a bitsy surprised to see this hanging around close to the top twenty! I don't think it's a bad song or anything, but I thought all of Sabrina's slow songs were getting slaughtered alike. Granted that Don't Smile is certainly one of the better ballads on Stout n Sour, the song has more of a wistful vibe compared to some of the more "whiny" tracks. It also has light ethereal elements to the production going on back there. Pretty neat! It's interesting to see what connects with voters and what doesn't. Maybe people were rating it high because they were just thankful for the album being over? Busy Woman kind of outsold tbh... Invisibility: "I can't treat this song with respect or seriousness because "dont smile because it's over, cry because it happened" and the like were the phrases one of my besties and I used to annoy each other with in high school." Moonlight Nation: "Doesn't work as a closer, but it quickly grew on me once I revisited it outside the album. This sound brilliantly suits Sabrina's voice, and I love the bitter melancholy of the lyrics." 3
