no it looks like a big anthology type compilation of her jazzier material, most of it seems to be previously released (there's a few demos and live versions here and there)

it's sort of a biography dash critical appraisal of her, there's a lot of interesting material around her life without it quite descending into lots of names and dates. lots on how she functioned as a woman in a man's game, quite ATRL coded in a way in terms of how she worked the mechanics of her career - deals and friendships, industry manoeuvring - to get her where she wanted to be and, most importantly, viewed as a peer to the big lads (CSNY, james taylor etc) rather than a woman who was less important.

 

predictably good critical analysis of her music and how it develops over time but also gets into her occasional cultural dodginess - including blackface joni but it goes deeper - which powers tries to understand but without at all letting her off the hook. it's a bit dense - it's taken ages to get thru - but you feel like you've learned a lot and i know a reasonable amount about her already
