She became the oldest artist to top the Hot 100 at time (52 years old) and was the biggest single of 1999 in the US.

 

It also topped the European Hot 100 and became the biggest single of 1998 in the UK, surpassing Celine's "My Heart Will Go On".

'Strong Enough' was a hit in Europe and still is a queer classic, the other 2 singles from the album got airplay and entered the charts even top10 in some European countries as well, even if they weren't big as 'Believe', the success of that song was not easy to replicate obviously especially at her age at that time.

 

'Living Proof' was a good album and continuation of what she did with 'Believe' but once again, it wasn't easy replicate the success of 'Believe' at almost 60.

I am talking more about albums, Cher has a lot of weak albums. Till this day I don't get "Living Proof" ? Was that a 9/11 album? Was that an GH? I remember watching a 9/11 sort of homage video and I instantly cringe at it.

 

Then we have Women's World that she should hide together with the horrible  "Destroying Abba" album that she did in 2? terrible parts.

 

She has some nice songs lost in a sea of horrible ones. Couldn't she give Believe, Turn Back Time, that uptempo song in Burlesque kind of tracks?

She tried to continuate what she did with 'Believe' with that album as she stated herself, sonically they're similar, the 9|11 kind of video clearly was done because of the times.

 

Overall I think she simply didn't care after the flop of that album, she worked super hard between the 70s and 80s, during the 90s after winning the Oscar her acting career was already declining by her choice with doing less projects and then 'Believe' happened reviving her status-imagine, I don't think that success was expected, it just happened, overall I think she felt that she reached her career goals at 60, she was established as legend, rich and didn't care much to release music or acting, what she did after in those years was more in order to do something.

True. But as a fan that didnt really was around at her heyday, I always wanted her to do something more, something great.

 

I grew up during the time she was news because of the supposedly hundreds of surgeries, this was the 90s. 

 

I knew her more than that because my father really loved Sony and Cher. So he would always tell me how she was beautiful even before surgeries.

 

Then "Sirens" really came up a lot on tv and I used to love it.

 

Believe was the first taste of her as a powerhouse.

 

For me it is like Kylie with CGYOOMH, before that I didnt know she existed. I mean I saw her as Cammy on the Street Fighter movie lol. It was great to be able to follow her in the 00s. I get she was way younger and had more ambition because of that.

 

I think it is great for Cher if she doesnt want to do it or if she does it, but as a fan, and she gives me life even though I dont care for those last albums, I always hope for more.
