Please, please do some research before regurgitating these tired talking points. The police do not care about people like you or me or anyone from here, unless they are rich of course. They exist to serve and protect the ruling class and the status quo imposed by them. They are not the justice & freedom fighters they made y'all believe they are.

I still remember the time my aunt called the police because her husband was being violent and all they did was note she had a few drinks and asked her what she did to provoke him. Meanwhile he was on drugs and having a mental break and violently attacking his wife. Cops are useless at best and corrupt and violent at worst. & best believe even the “good cops” are going to protect their rotten apples.

Ugh, I am sorry for you and your aunt. And yes, that is pretty much true, unfortunately. The whole institution is a mess, of course not all of the people working there are bad, but those aren't enough to justify the way it is right now and how it has been in the past.

These ACAB! people will still call the police if there's a killer after them.

I agree, they got to redo the entire system but it I don’t see it happening anytime soon. I’m glad in my area it kind of mellowed out but there was a time the police had a bias against my family. One even pushed my 90+ year old grandfather down. I even remember I was at school and a policeman had the audacity to ask me if I’m behaving and tells me he knows my place is a “party house” despite only ever having family over and no parties. I do live in a conservative county too. As a kid I feared cops and knew they weren’t going to protect me. I’m now pretty indifferent to most cops now but the terrible ones need to start being punished. 

Is everyone in this thread unaware that pride is a celebration of the anniversary of the stonewall riots which occurred as a reaction to the NYPD brutalizing queer people in 1969? It has nothing to do with anyone’s opinions of police in 2023.

 

A prominent queer figure choosing to feature this in their pride content with no reference to its historic symbolism is irresponsible at best, tacky and ignorant at worst.

We need better training at police academies and obviously better psychological evaluations
