what kinda comment is this? if you are gonna bring up Dawn fm era then you should bring up Changes era too. and Dawn fm era is already more successful then the changes era. In just one year the difference between Changes album streams and dawn fm streams on spotify is just around 100M. And it already outlasted it on bb 200 and STILL charting.

Almost daily there are couple of tweets about how great of an artist/celeb weeknd is that goes viral on twitter. i assure you most people know who weeknd is.

The Weeknd is a bigger artist, but Justin is a bigger celebrity only because of these two reasons, especially the first 

Great points to consider! It's also worth noting The Weeknd has actively avoided the standard celebrity traditions that help increase one's star profile. He never did any TV or radio interviews - barely any spoken interviews for that matter beyond two short ones for the Super Bowl and one with Zane Lowe back in 2016. No silly sketches like those Ellen games and Carpool Karaoke either. Even his rare Instagram lives consisted of him just quietly vibing to music. As a result, there is very little widespread and/or viral content of him beyond his songs, music videos, and performances, so it's understable why he's a less recognizable face and public figure compared to someone like Justin Bieber (or any of the major A + B listers, really ).

 

Keeping a low profile was a deliberate choice from his part to have the music as the main focus. It should be intriguing to see if Abel will start opening up more once he lets go of The Weeknd's persona after the next album. 

Both The Weeknd and Justin Bieber are really popular and very successful in music, especially with albums such as Purpose and After Hours.

 

Obviously, Justin Bieber is a bigger celebrity, especially in 2010s. Since he's married, Justin Bieber is more famous and popular for his music than his public image and personal life, and teenage girls are less obsess with him.
