Kakao has been trying to buy LSM's shares for nearly a year now. And LSM first put them on sale in late 2021. So it's been going on for a while. I have no idea if they will go ahead, but SM is probably making all these changes so they can dump LSM and allow his shares to get bought. He stalled the sale due to exposure of his dodgy deals and his demands to stay employed as the Creative Director.

 

aespa will be fine, they just need a public friendly song (like DCT, Savage etc.) or one that goes viral (like Next Level).

 

I'm more concerned about the management and promotion than anything. For example, Girls could have done better if they'd promoted it correctly and likewise Illusion could have been a good choice too.

This is kinda interesting like if Kakao successfully acquired LSM shares does that mean in exchange their distributor may switch to Kakao as well or stay at the DreamUS.

LSM is the majority shareholder, so if Kakao's purchase is successful, it will have control, so could in theory influence the company do what it wants.

 

SM would effectively become an independent subsidiary of Kakao like when Kakao bought Starship and High Up. I think Kakao really wants to get SM, because they want their entertainment department to compete with HYBE and all of their recent purchases/sub-labels.
