GRAMMYs a wards shows in general are very political, there are many talented and impactful music legends that never received one and yet there are plenty of artists that have a lot, they've never been a true representation of a legacy as much as it's been whose label is willing to invest more on nominations and wins. Dianna Ross, ABBA and Brian McKnight never won a GRAMMY for instance.

 

They are as important as you want them to be but do not have any other impact or relevance other than a statue to be honest.

They're not everything when it comes to an artist legacy, but they still remain the most prestigious and important recognition in music, there's a reason if in public appearances an artist is often introduced as X Grammy Award winner.

I'm pretty sure David Bowie fans would say something similar and he did win Grammys, but most came after his death when they pretended to like him and then blocked him from the general field and delivered that terrible tribute performance. His own family and his band were not impressed.

Well, have you seen the artists crying when they received the news of themselves getting a nom? I remember I watched the Taylor's documentary and she was so disappointed when she didn't get one. Nicki, Drake and The Weekend wouldn't throw a tantrum if it didn't matter to them.

I see the same stans whose favs don't have a Grammy basically saying this.

 

It's like saying the Emmys, Oscars, etc don't matter. These awards were created to provide a space where your peers and industry experts honor great music, film, talent for that year. For many artists, especially those who care about their craft, these awards are what they're striving for because it is recognition from their peers.

 

To you they might not matter, but to those who actually work on their craft, it does.

 

And it doesn't mean you can't enjoy music, film, etc that isn't awarded. But dragging an industry award simply because your fav doesn't have one doesn't mean you're right.

I had a nightmare that a song called Victoria's secret that chants Dude got a nomination. Then I woke up and realized it was not true thankfully.
