Why did The Itch flop?

Featured Replies

Coming off from the success of Graduation Song, Vitamin C released her follow up single called The Itch at the height of the bubblegum pop explosion. The song featured Swedish pop production choices reminiscent of the hits during that time from Britney & Xtina. It also showed a sexier and more mature side to Vitamin C as she weaponized her sexuality like her peers. It also featured as a movie soundtrack for one of the biggest summer hits at the time.

Yet why did the Itch flop and didn’t replicate the success of her previous single? If this had been released today by Ava Max or Bebe Rexha and are reviving the 90s pop genre, it would smash in today’s climate? what  happened? Why went wrong?

Ksksksksk I was LITERALLY blasting The Itch 15 minutes ago on my Last.fm :deadbanana2: and now there is ATRL thread about this bop... ughhh our minds

Bigger questions is why She Talks About Love wasn’t released as a single.

I love Colleen, but The Itch is her worst single by far. She doesn't have the vocals to carry it off and so it comes off as extremely juvenile. The melody is also kind of cringe.

It lacks any personality.

I listened to it recently for my Crownnotes charts that I've been doing for 2000 onward. Even on my personal chart, I couldn't chart it past the Top 25 - it just doesn't have enough flavor to really last long.

It's cute, but it was clearly another Dollar Store type of Britney ripoff.
