"Super Bass" absolutely deserved to go #1, one of the more memorable hits of that whole period and felt way bigger than many of the #1s at the time, and has lasted through the years. A truly great, effortless pop song and also a breakthrough for female rappers in that it seamlessly combined both hard-hitting and credible rap verses (unlike, say, Kesha or Fergie's attempts, no shade) with an earworm pop hook that she herself (with uncredited Ester Dean vocals too nnn) sang. She kind of started a new template for female rap with that song where it was now possible to both play the hard rapper and colorful pop star, simultaneously. Lil Kim, Missy, Eve etc never went that far into pop with one of their own tracks.

 

I would argue that song birthed several major careers in the next 10 years including Doja Cat.
