Björk's iconic fourth studio album Vespertine was released on August 27 2001, twenty-one years ago!

 

The project saw a departure from Björk's previous harder-hitting work (Post, Homogenic), making room for soothing, dream-like soundscapes. It is often considered her best album, as well as one of the best of the 2000s and of all-time.

 

It features many fan-favorites, such as "Pagan Poetry", "Aurora" and "Undo", as well as singles "Hidden Place" and "Cocoon".

The music video for "Pagan Poetry" (directed by Nick Knight) is ranked amongst the best videos of all-time. The Vespertine era had some of Björk's most legendary fashion moments, like the Swan Dress or the Pearl Dress, designed by the late Alexander McQueen.

Sounds still as fresh as when it released. I'm always in awe of the little details: Hidden Place for instance only truly unfolds with quality headphones.

I know right! I got high some hours ago and listened to Undo and omg! The ice cubes in the background. So incredible. Also her voice in this album? Out of this world.

Her BEST album to date. A classic. Timeless. Let me put this record on today!

No way! I randomly listened to it today, what a coincidence it's its birthday.

 

It absolutely is her best album, she captured the feeling of being in love perfectly. I like coming back to it every now and then and it always makes me smile. Pagan Poetry is one of the best songs of all time, when she yells at the end it gives me chills.
