Dolly Parton

 

 

 

Dolly has released 65 studio albums throughout her almost seven decade career! The most recent, Run, Rose, Run, was released in March 2022, and features the singles Big Dreams and Faded Jeans, Blue Bonnet Breeze, and Woman Up (And Take It Like a Man). Dolly is also a prolific songwriter, having composed over 3,000 songs, including Jolene, I Will Always Love You, and 9 to 5.

She has ventured into television, hosting her own variety shows in the 1970s and the 1980s, as well as starring in the feature films 9 to 5, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and Steel Magnolias, among others.

 

Dolly's upcoming projects include a Christmas special for NBC titled Mountain Magic Christmas, which is being filmed at her Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and is set to feature special guests including Willie Nelson and Jimmy Fallon. She also has a new duet version of 9 to 5 with Kelly Clarkson planned for release this fall to coincide with the released of the documentary Still Working 9 to 5.

Once Upon A Christmas being the most popular of her three holiday albums despite being the worst of the them.  But I’m assuming it’s mostly because of Hard Candy Christmas so I’ll allow it.

I’m listening to Home for Christmas in full for the first time now and it’s got such a pleasant classic vibe. Quality recordings of well-selected classics. So many children’s choirs, though—but if anyone can make that tolerable, it’s Dolly!

Are yall ready to talk about thee greatest of the great yet?

Revisited Rockstar earlier. Such an fun and iconic capstone to her career. Responding to her Rock N Roll Hall of Fame induction by recording a 40 track monster of a project to justify her inclusion. Who else could do it? Who else would? The fact that she recruited so many big names… effortlessly did justice to so many classics… slipped in a dozen of her own original compositions, several of which are genuinely very good. What a moment for her.

Also revisited Burlap & Satin, probably the best of her pop crossover records. The streak of A Gamble Either Way, Appalachian Memories, I Really Don't Want to Know, Potential New Boyfriend, A Cowboy's Ways is so GOATed. Love that AGEW and ACW are outtakes from Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Also really fascinating how she basically recycled ACW into Try, which is one of my personal favorites and seemed to be one of Dolly's own favorites of her 21st century output; it was featured on Blue Smoke and prominently used in her Emmy winning holiday film Christmas on the Square.

My top 3 are probably Love is Like a Butterfly, Just Because I'm a Woman, and My Tennessee Mountain Home.

Most of her albums clock in around the 30 minute mark so they're not super demanding.

Dolly Parton came into this world at 8:25?P.M. and left this world on 8/25.

There are so many songs I enjoy:

Hard Candy Christmas, You Can't Make Old Friends, Rockin' It, Jeannies Afraid of the Dark, Big Dreams and Faded Jeans,

keep watching her content with Katy and what a funny, gorgeous and glamorous woman she was.

Right now I should stick to her hits, was playing her spotify this is Dolly playlist, some songs made me cry

Going through her discography but skipping the Porter Wagoner joint albuns.

I'm at My Blue Ridge Mountain Boy and have enjoyed all of the records so far. She really was a one of a kind songwriter. Title track is actually amazing. Still can't believe she's gone.

We will miss Dolly so much I hope we can hear more about how her team and organizations will keep her legacy going, especially the Imagination Library.
