My Everything is the album that launched Ariana into popstar territory and it was packed with hits. Yet, upon a relistening session of her discography, I have come to the conclusion that Yours Truly is the far more cohesive and timeless album.

 

I mean COME on now... i feel like this is easily Ariana's most overlooked album. I would love for her to do this 90s R&B type of sound again but obviously more polished 

 

 

 

 

 

 

YT is much better than ME as a body of work but ME has much better singles.

One Last Time, Break Free and Love Me Harder will always be top tier Ariana songs but the album overall is a literal mess.

My Everything feels like a playlist album

Like they just threw anything to make Ariana smashing that time

Because Yours Godly has You'll Never Know, Lovin' It, Daydreamin', Tattooed Heart, Honeymoon Avenue, The Way and Better Left Unsaid.

Would've been a perfect album if it weren't for Popular Trash and Better Left Unheard. 

Yours Truly is a solid debut album (especially for 2013 pop standards) with discography highlights (Honeymoon Avenue, The Way, Tattooed Heart..) but

My Everything is a great pop album, it just has a messy tracklist. I made my own and it bops:

The problem.mp3 with My Everything is it's not an album, it's a Spotify playlist 

 

At the least the title of the album fits the atmosphere : it's her everything, a mix of songs she likes, songs her labels told her to record, songs for the charts...

 

That being said, as a fan, that era was exciting and the hype was the hightest i experience with Ariana, slowly turning into a global force.

 

But Yours Truly is a real album, made with purpose. It was (her) truly songs she wanted to pull, music not the bling.

 

Still my favorite album from her with Sweetener.

 

(Ps: the reverse 1-2-3 punch of Intro, Problem, One Last Time is still the worst of pop history. Just like Hands On Me lost in the middle of so many ballads )

Sweetener had both the great roll-out (although cut short because of personal events) and the quality music, I fear that was her real peak. My Everything era was enjoyable but at the same time you could tell that she wasn't that passionate about the music she was singing, something that you could really feel from 2018 on.

My Everything was put together to launch Ariana into stardom so it comes across as a playlist of hits. There's definitely some pop gems in there but YT is more cohesive and has better quality songs that I think have stood the test of time much better  plus, you can tell it was the music she wanted to make whereas ME was her just playing the industry game.

It was organic and Ariana had more free reign to make the music she always wanted. The label influenced ME and DW the most out of all of Ariana’s albums, and it shows unfortunately.

It’s gonna be 10 years already this is common knowledge:

Sure, ME cemented her as a mainstream star for the gp, but a lot of it has aged like milk. Meanwhile Honeymoon Ave, Right There, Tattooed Heart, Daydreamin’, You’ll Never Know, and Better Left Unsaid are timeless
